PRODUCT FOCUS: TECHNOLOGY, AI & ROBOTICS
PIONEERING AUTOMATION
Here, Gavin Holmes, New Product Development Manager at Robert Scott, provides insights into the latest expansions to the company’s range of advanced robotic cleaning systems.
Facilities managers are under increasing pressure to deliver cleaner, safer, more efficient environments, despite stretched resources. As a result, many are exploring the potential of automation to help meet these growing demands.
Colloborative robotics, also known as cobots, have emerged as a solution that offers much-needed support. Designed to work alongside humans, they autonomously handle time-consuming, repetitive tasks, so maintaining and improving standards becomes more achievable.
Celebrating its 100th year in business, Robert Scott has spent a century committed to innovation in commercial cleaning. The company’s focus on delivering cutting edge solutions to the industry, has seen it become a pioneer in the field of collaborative robotics in the UK’s commercial cleaning sector, introducing the autonomous MS60 scrubber dryer cobot in 2023.
Robert Scott is continuing to invest in its innovative robotics offering, with a number of new market-first automated tools scheduled launch to market over the next few months. That includes the MT1 Robotic Sweeper, SH1 Upright Scrubber Dryer, and the Exel Follow-Me Smart Trolley.
AI-powered sweeping The MT1 Robotic Sweeper is the world’s first AI-powered sweeping robot for large-scale environments, delivering results that rival ride-on sweepers. Dual disk brushes easily handle both larger debris like leaves and bottles, and fine dust and dirt.
It’s equipped with AI cameras that can recognise and identify a variety of types of waste in real time, continually learning and evolving through deep learning and database updates. The MT1’s Visual Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (vSLAM) enhances the machine’s ability to navigate through changing environments. It effortlessly covers large areas with an ultra-wide scanning field of view, accurately detecting and efficiently cleaning up waste during routine patrols.
Instant scrubbing and drying Expanding the product line further is the new SH1 Upright Scrubber Dryer, the first in the market to feature a unique wastewater tank that separates air, solids, and liquids to make refuse disposal easy and remove the risk of drain blockages. Compared to a conventional mop, it saves 80%

on water and cleaning agent usage and reduces cleaning time by 70%.
It’s designed with instant scrub-and-dry capability, delivering spotless floor surfaces in a single pass to save time and effort. It has multiple cleaning modes and can be equipped with a handheld kit for cleaning any horizontal and vertical surfaces. The SH1’s user-friendly 4.2inch touchscreen acts as a central control and information hub, displaying real-time data and on-screen training videos for the operative, and connects to WiFi to enable reporting.
Hands-free trolley support Also launching this summer is a multipurpose cleaning trolley that autonomously follows its user – the first of its kind in the UK cleaning market.
The Exel Follow-Me Smart Trolley builds on the original Exel Multipurpose Trolley, launched in 2024, integrating Follow-Me technology to enable the trolley to follow a cleaner with a remote control.
This automation removes the need to manually push the trolley or return to a stationary cart for supplies, allowing for hands-free, on-the-go cleaning. It reduces walking distance for cleaners by around half, enabling a more efficient workflow.
The trolley uses a series of sensors and cameras to autonomously follow a cleaner, and can also be remote controlled and recalled to the user. It features advanced obstacle avoidance and drop detection technology so it can avoid collisions with objects or people whilst following behind. This is especially valuable in settings where staff are constantly on the move, such as maintaining large floor areas and repetitive activities like mopping and dusting.
The growing role of robotics in
facilities management Powered by 100 years of cleaning know-how, Robert Scott’s continued investment in automation is driven by the demand for smarter solutions that solve real-world challenges for cleaning and facilities management teams.
With the MT1, SH1, and Exel Follow-Me Smart Trolley, we’re excited to be introducing some of the most advanced tools on the market.
