safety vinyl that provides the required slip resistance rating and ticks the boxes for a quick and easy installation is a must. Looking at adhesive free flooring, you can find any of these solutions and more to suit your needs.
Varied designs That said, there still remains a need to balance functionality with design. Interior design choices can play a major part in the way people perceive and experience spaces, with studies showing a clear correlation between colours and emotions.
Here, having access to a wide range of colourways and designs can be hugely beneficial – in particular, taking inspiration from biophilic design trends, with the addition of natural tones or patterns such as wood or stone effect finishes. To meet this demand, manufacturers will often offer coordinated collections spanning different product types, ensuring you don’t have to compromise on design to meet sustainability and functionality objectives.
Fast supply, fast fit Forbo’s newly updated Fast Supply, Fast Fit collection is a great example of this, featuring a trio of adhesive-free flooring products to suit the majority of applications: Modul’up 19dB, Eternal Next and Surestep Fast Fit. Covering a range of application requirements, including safety and acoustic flooring, the collection offers proven performance (with over 1,000,000 sqm installed each year) and is the ideal solution for fast and hassle-free refurbishments.
Locally stocked in the UK for fast supply, all three products can be installed over existing flooring using the same tape and can be fitted on damp floors up to 92% relative humidity (RH). They can also be stuck down, depending on the installer’s preference.
Manufactured using 100% renewable electricity, up to 24% recycled content and phthalate-free, all three ranges are fully recyclable at the end of life when installed adhesive- free and are covered with a third-party verified EPD.

Different installation methods
There’s a range of ways in which adhesive free flooring can be installed, which each coming with its own benefits for different applications. These are:
Click
As the name suggests, the click installation method involves tiles or planks that can be easily ‘clicked’ together, forming a strong and reliable connection. Using this method, large spaces can be covered relatively quickly, with the connections between each covering virtually invisible once installed.
Tapes
Commonly referred to as double sided PMR contact tape, simply apply the tape to coving (if applicable) and any seams or transitions, before laying the flooring. This method allows for extremely quick installations and again allows for easy replacement of damaged or old flooring if needed.
Magnetic tabs or Tab-Its
Magnetic on one side and dry-tack adhesive on the other, magnetic tabs are available as small tabs that not only hold flooring tiles vertically to the sub-floor but also interlock them horizontally for unrivalled two-dimensional hold. Best used for spaces with metal raised access floors, these tabs allow a tile to be easily pulled back up without damaging the raised access flooring or the backing of the floor covering itself.
Alternatively, there are Tab-Its which are a similar solution to magnetic tabs, but do not need to be installed over metal raised access flooring.
