FLOORCARE AND CARPET & UPHOLSTERY CARE 24/7 Service A Planned Attack

T he appearance or performance of carpet in common areas is often disappointing; the carpet is cleaned intermittently once soil has b uilt up and is v isib le, b ut prev enting odours and sometimes mould growth in rooms is also crucial n terms of sheer performance, we are asking a lot of our carpet

I t is important to realise that changing the flooring system does not change the amount of dirt that is b rought into the facility cknoledging this critical fact will help prov ide maintenance planning and schedules that achiev e real, satisfying carpet performance

S o, from a practical, day-to-day maintenance point of v iew, where does the manager begin leaning the carpet once soiling can b e seen won' t solv e the prob lem – dealing with the dirt as it accumulates is the b est option, and this requires a planned attack ere are some recommendations that will make a signicant, immediate difference in keeping carpet clean and contrib uting to a healthy physical environment

Ten Top Tips  By keeping parking areas, pav ement and adj acent ex terior areas clean, less dirt ends up inside ore than

9 0 % of dirt on indoor carpets is tracked in on shoe soles, so think defensiv ely; consider b anning chewing gum use and look at the type of spots/ spills and other dirt that gets onto the carpet o can these sources be eliminated

 Walk-off mats at all entrances should hav e pile, b e at least 2 0 linear feet long and b e ab le to trap both dry dirt and moisture t is important to include these mats in the daily v acuuming activ ities, which will remov e a great deal of the dirt being tracked in

As more companies move towards 24 hours a day, 7 days a week use, keeping carpets in service around the clock presents a challenge. Mike Egerton, Managing Director of Host von Schrader, explains how operatives can deliver under pressure with the right advice.

 D aily v acuuming is the single most important thing to do, particularly across all high-trafc areas t may ev en b e necessary to v acuum some entrances tice a day

 Rememb er that the maj ority of the dirt that comes into the b uilding is dry dirt and is remov ed most effectiv ely through vacuuming any carpet manufacturers recommend pile lifting as an important step in maintaining carpet, to open the yarn for a more effective clean

 Y ou don' t hav e to clean all the carpet, j ust the areas of greatest

use While all to all cleaning is occasionally needed, concentrate your resources on the areas of greatest use

 T ransition areas – where carpet meets hard floor surfaces  are easy to maintain ith this strategy

T he carpet can b e dry cleaned and returned to use immediately

 Make sure that your v acuums are in good operating condition heck

b elts, b eater b ars, b rush agitators, vacuum bags and lters he brand is less important than the care and maintenance of the v acuum – ev en the b est v acuum performs poorly hen not maintained

 S pend more time and effort cleaning and v acuuming ground floor areas he dirt comes from outside at ground lev el, so the more you clean there, the less is needed on the upper floors

 Carpeting the lift goes a long way toward prev enting the spread of dirt to upper floors Be sure to vacuum lift floors every day and deep clean them at least eekly

 E stab lish a simple spot remov al programme – an incredib ly simple technique is to use the H O S T apper System here is no mix ing of chemicals and no risk of damage through over etting

S ince the b est time to clean a spot is immediately, we encourage placing a b ag of dry cleaner or

Z apper system onto each cleaning cart his ay, spots can be uickly addressed whilst, for ex ample, the room or area is being serviced

A b ov e all, make carpet care a planned routine operation and the carpet ill look good for much longer
