So much to see
Paul Thrupp, Chairman of the British Cleaning Council, welcomes the industry back to the Manchester Cleaning show.
This month sees one of the biggest and most enjoyable dates in my professional calendar for 2020 – the Manchester Cleaning Show, being held on 25-26 March, at Event City in Greater Manchester.
It’s hard to believe that this is only the third Manchester Cleaning Show, and that it’s
only four years since the biennial event was founded back in 2016. Since then it has gone from strength
to strength and, following a fantastic inaugural show, it has become the major cleaning and hygiene event for the north of England.
The Manchester Cleaning Show, which follows the same exhibition and free conference format as its parent, The Cleaning Show (held at Excel in London every two years), has consistently exceeded expectations in terms of visitor numbers and the demand for exhibition space, coupled with excellent feedback from delegates.
The success of the first event in 2016 was repeated for the 2018 event, and the show is now well-established as a major industry event in its own right. It’s also now significant for the North’s economy, attracting over 2000 visitors and driving the area's cleaning industry forward.
Anyone attending is guaranteed to leave feeling inspired and enthused about our industry. One of the things I love about it is the dazzling array of new products and innovations that are on display.
You get a real mix of exhibitors, from the huge international companies that everyone in the cleaning sector recognises, to smaller but still well-known businesses and a fair mix of newer firms. But wherever you look, when you visit the Manchester Cleaning Show, you’ll see fascinating products, new ideas and technologies on display that are a fantastic showcase for our industry.
I also enjoy getting the chance to see and talk shop with so many colleagues, whether they are people I already know or if I’m meeting them for the first time. There’s a very friendly feel to the whole event, and I know that many visitors to the show enjoy this social side, as well as valuing the
62 | THE MANCHESTER CLEANING SHOW opportunity to network or strike business deals.
If you’re attending, I strongly recommend that you also take advantage of the free conference programme, with this year’s topics being one of the strongest I’ve seen at any of the Manchester Cleaning Shows. It features highly respected industry experts talking about enlightening and interesting topics largely on the themes of sustainability, health and safety, and business issues such as dealing with the rising issue of cybercrime.
These talks are designed to be especially relevant to cleaning industry professionals and are based on topics identified by visitors to last year’s Cleaning Show as being of high interest.
For example, Dominic Ponniah, CEO and co-founder of Cleanology, will examine the subject of cleanliness at work, attitudes towards workplace illness and how to stop infections from spreading, while Lorcan Mekitarian, General Manager of Berry bpi recycled products and the new chairman of the Cleaning and Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA), will be discussing what single-use plastics mean for the cleaning industry.
Other topics include the benefits of hiring your industrial cleaning equipment, a British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) session on practical training and assessment, and a talk on how to grow a business in a competitive market. There’s plenty more I haven’t mentioned here, and the free conference programme is bound to have something that suits you.
