The value of efficiency


Doing business efficiently in today’s world means making the most of every hour. Scaling up small optimisations on people’s time and effort will create savings that really make a difference. An example of this comes from something as innocuous as bin liners. Investment in continuous bin liners removes the need to manually replace bags, cutting the bin changing time in half.


On the small scale, this will save an employee a few minutes on their day-to-day tasks, but when scaled up across an entire organisation, this can unlock energy and effort that can be better focused elsewhere. It’s how we helped engine manufacturer Cummins save 4,000 hours of labour, unlocking £75,000 of additional resource.


Knowledge is power when it comes to understanding how to optimise your bottom line, and that doesn’t just come from understanding how your employees are working. Having more oversight of the waste your company produces can help a specialist identify new sources of rebates and revenue.


For example, at Birmingham Wholesale Market, we installed a Weight & Trace machine to understand where waste was being produced. It enabled more accurate invoicing of waste produced by tenants in the market, resulting in increased revenue for the business.
