“The need to ensure the
highest possible level of hand hygiene has never been more important in order to minimise the risk of further waves of COVID-19.”
Hospitality hygiene
Northwood give us advice on how to promote hygiene with Northwood’s hand towels in the leisure and hospitality sector.
Since March, while the UK government guidance on how best to tackle COVID-19 has been subject to considerable amounts of change, there has been one element that has always remained constant throughout: the importance of thorough hand washing.
From the outset, the government gave clear advice on how to wash hands effectively. Efficient hand drying is also vital to limit the spread of the virus: as microbes survive better in moisture, any that remain on skin after washing are more likely to spread to other surfaces when people do not dry their hands properly.
Now, as the leisure and hospitality sector gradually reopens following lockdown, the need to ensure the highest possible level of hand hygiene has never been more important in order to minimise the risk of further waves of COVID-19.
As widely reported in the press earlier this year, a high profile piece of research by the University of Leeds (Dispersal of Microbes to Hospital Surfaces Following Two Hand Drying Methods: Paper Towels or a Jet Air Dryer – Dr Ines Moura, Duncan Ewin and Professor Mark Wilcox) found that paper towels remove remaining microbes more efficiently than electric hand dryers. Many within the hygiene industry also believe that hand dryers help disperse the virus through the air, and so instead recommend single use paper towels on this basis also.
The NHS’s March 20 online guide, How to Wash Your Hands, advises people to ‘dry your hands completely with a disposable towel’.
As leisure and hospitality venues reopen, Northwood Hygiene Products, the leading manufacturer and supplier

of away-from-home (AfH) professional paper hygiene and wiping products, is pleased to be able to support establishments of every kind with a comprehensive portfolio of disposable paper towels, designed to help keep washroom visitors safe and businesses running.
Northwood offers a choice of washroom systems, comprising of ultra-hygienic paper towel dispensers with no touch options, whilst still delivering cost-in-use benefits.
It also offers Essentials and Optimum, two commodity lines which include paper hand towel options, one 100% recycled and the other pure pulp – which satisfy the requirements of venues wishing to combine cleanliness with economy. For those who are wanting to offer the recommended hand towel option but not compromise on their high-end feel or premium look, Northwood offers the Whisper Luxi hand towel: made with Airlaid technology, it combines a luxurious appearance with a high level of washroom hygiene.
Furthermore, in order to enable organisations to provide people with easy to access hand sanitation, both within and outside the washroom, Northwood has launched a range of hygiene gels, affirming its status as a one-stop- shop as lockdown is lifted. Available in 500ml and 250ml pump dispensers, the Hand Hygiene Gels can be distributed throughout facilities, promoting regular application. The new Trichol Gel has been designed to allow organisations to refill their dispensers with a formula that kills 99.9% of Gram+ and Gram- bacteria within 15 seconds, and meets both EN1276 and EN1500 hygiene standards.
