Since the beginning of lockdown (and for a few weeks beforehand), I took every precaution I could when going out into the world: limiting the amount of trips I made to once a week, working from home, wearing a mask while indoors or in close proximity to people, using hand sanitiser liberally and ensuring I didn’t
touch anything that I didn’t have to. And yet I still managed to fall ill, was forced to take time off work and took a test for COVID-19.
While my test result was negative, it’s important to remember that in any
public space, avoiding communicable illnesses is always going to be incredibly difficult, even with increased cleaning frequencies or more in-depth methods. ‘More cleaning’ isn’t a replacement for a cure or vaccine: no matter how great a cleaning procedure is, risk will always remain wherever humans interact or
cross paths. While I was lucky to avoid COVID, I wasn’t exactly fortunate, and the whole episode is a reminder that the Coronavirus isn’t the only virus out there that can find its way through even the most fastidious procedure.
Unsurprisingly, COVID-19 remains on top of everyone’s mind in this issue
of Tomorrow’s Cleaning, and we’ve got plenty of features from companies this month, including a cheesy case study from Robert Scott, a word from Facilicom UK & Ireland Director Jan-Hein Hemke about the ‘new normal’, and
Kimberly-Clark Professional team with the British Institute of Cleaning Science to explain why cleaning is now everyone’s responsibility.
In our Leisure and Hospitality feature we hear from many companies helping retailers re-open as safely as possible. Stuart from Essity investigates

improving airport safety from a cleaning and hygiene perspective, while Justin from Christeyns explains how to get confidence back in clean linens.
Also, Cleankill gives us an explanation on how to eliminate lockdown invaders in our Pest Control feature, while Julia from Beaver Pest Control tells us how
to fight fly infestations, and Safeguard Pest Control let us know how COVID-19 has impacted the industry.
Thank you very much for reading, please stay safe and enjoy the issue!
