News Sponsored by Hospitality and foodservice industries get new guides

In light of the recent relaxation of the lockdown, Holchem – part of the Kersia Group – has published new hygiene guides.

The guides are designed to help businesses in the hospitality sector plan their re- openings and ensure they are meeting the relevant guidelines and implementing best practice. The guides cover specific needs for the foodservice sector and businesses that offer accommodation.

They both contain information from the government guidelines and include advice on:

• Tools and resources to manage safety systems • Risk assessments • Cleaning of premises • Touchpoint cleaning • General precautions • Environmental cleaning • Staff training

Mike McHardy, Holchem’s Division Manager Foodservice and Facilities, said: “Our teams have been advising our customers on how they can open their businesses safely and in-line with government guidelines. The guidance includes, amongst other things, details other things details on hygiene plans as well as tools and resources to ensure both staff and customers are put at ease. There are lots of different areas to consider and best practice to implement and we have the knowledge and expertise to be able to steer businesses in how they will need to adapt and change their business.”

Holchem is encouraging businesses to contact the team so they can offer them specific bespoke solutions to their post-lockdown hygiene needs.

Northwood Hygiene Products is increasing its hand towel capacity by over 40%, following a significant investment in new equipment.

With the NHS advising people to dry their hands with disposable towels rather than electronic dryers (NHS ‘How to Wash Your Hands’ guide, 20 March 2020), there is a growing appreciation of the hygiene benefits of the former, which best remove remaining microbes after washing.

In order to meet the rapidly growing demand for folded hand towels, Northwood is installing three new machines at its Oldham converting plant, with a combined capacity of circa 12,000 tonnes per year, which will run alongside the existing two.

The investment will allow Northwood to not only increase capacity, but also to reduce the amount of factored goods imported from outside the UK. This will enable the company to further improve its high degree of vertical integration.

Paul Mulready, Northwood’s Marketing Manager, said: “The increased demand for hand towels is predicted to continue long-term, as COVID-19 has highlighted not only the importance of effective hand drying, but also the superior performance of single use towels over electronic units.

“By increasing our UK production capacity by over 40%, we will be able to meet our customers’ high demands reliably and competitively, enabling them to safely reopen their facilities after lockdown and then to provide a high level of washroom hygiene long-term.”
