launched The British Cleaning Council (BCC) has published a guide to cleaning terms to help the UK economy reopen safely following the Coronavirus lockdown.
Since the pandemic began, the BCC has received many enquiries about cleaning applications, processes and procedures from a variety of different organisations that are reopening premises or seeking to design cleaning regimes that will ensure that staff, visitors and the public alike stay safe and well.
The BCC has consulted member organisations from across the sector in order to compile an agreed guide to ensure informed decisions are made, good standards are reached and people are reassured when it comes to cleaning and hygiene in the current environment.
Key advice in the guide includes:
• When cleaning within the healthcare sector, standard operating procedures should be referenced in conjunction with the latest advice from Public Health England and the World Health Organization.
• A two-stage process is needed when employing methods such as ‘fogging’, ‘misting’, ‘spraying’, ‘fumigation’ and ‘bug-bombing’ – cleaning to remove soil is essential before disinfecting to remove the pathogenic micro-organisms.
• When employing a contractor or planning a cleaning and hygiene regime, it’s essential that a current, robust risk assessment is designed acknowledging the various
Interclean becomes hybrid event
Interclean has extended its physical event, running 3-6 November 2020 at RAI Amsterdam, to be a combination of online and offline.
This ensures it’s possible for everyone to join, keeping in mind global government and company restrictions on traveling and large gatherings.
Online and onsite educational sessions will complement each other and are available for everybody throughout the day, as well as the possibility to (virtually) visit companies, plan meetings with those you want to meet, and socialise with your peers.
In addition to the regular knowledge programme on site, attendees will be able to follow the interactive sessions live online in which they can ask questions directly to the speakers.
RAI Amsterdam is ready to organise Interclean Amsterdam in a safe and responsible manner. Robert Stelling, Exhibition Manager, explained: “We have every confidence that we are able to proactively and effectively address all COVID- 19-related risks at the show. We are fully prepared to bring people together safely and let them experience again the power of connections in both the physical as well as the

• When engaging external providers to carry out specialist cleaning/disinfecting activity it’s important to review their credentials in terms of: reputation and credibility; operator training, product credibility (preferably that which has undergone efficacy testing and has a unique EN number); and resulting evaluation process – how is the outcome measured?
Paul Thrupp, BCC Chairman, said: “Outside the cleaning and hygiene industry, there is some confusion about what is needed in terms of cleaning and disinfecting to ensure people stay safe and well in light of the risk posed by Coronavirus.
“This has been aggravated by entities which have sprung up, aiming to capitalise on the public’s fears by offering cleaning products and services which may not do all that they claim.
“Our guide aims to bust these myths and offer an industry- agreed source of reliable, evidence-based information. It will help ensure that the high standard of cleaning and hygiene that are crucial for defeating Coronavirus as the UK economy unlocks can be achieved and it will help provide the reassurance that people need.”

The most important measure will be that all people need to keep 1.5m distance from others at all times. There will be safety paths of 4m and crowd management and routing to stimulate the flow of visitors will be performed. With maximum prevention in mind the exhibition floor will be re- arranged to ensure that exhibitors are able to have personal meetings and offer hospitality on their stands.
RAI will also ensure good hygiene by providing such means as touchless hand sanitiser, soap, napkins, anti-septic wipes and other cleaning materials.
The current challenge has made RAI more committed to fulfilling their role as a meeting place for hygiene professionals, by building bridges for successful cooperation, and by providing a platform for the sharing of expertise across the global industry. They believe that it’s even more important as organisations worldwide are looking to build consensus on how to tackle outbreaks like the Coronavirus. Interclean Amsterdam can provide important impetus for the global economy at a time when it’s very much needed.
