E-LEARNING IS ON THE INCREASE

Jangro CEO, Joanne Gilliard, discusses the rise in online learning and the benefits it can bring to business.

According to the 2017 British Cleaning Council Industry Trends Report, workers across our industry are far more likely to hold lower levels of  However, the latest Working Future Projections shows that there will be a shift towards more people holding  of people employed in the industry  4 and above, whilst the proportion of  expected to fall to 4%.

This is great news for the industry. There are several strong commercial reasons for companies to encourage and invest in training. From a legal perspective, they have a duty of care to ensure their employees’ health and safety, but a well-trained workforce can also impact on the bottom line: after all, quality training helps operatives achieve best practice every time, resulting in efficient, high quality, and cost- effective cleaning services.

What’s more, high quality, relevant and ongoing training has never been more accessible. At Jangro, we offer our award-winning online training programme, the Jangro Learning Management Solution (Jangro LMS), free to all of our customers and their staff. We have spent more than six years developing this fully interactive e-learning platform, which has grown in recognition since it launched. We  analysing it to ensure courses are still relevant and up to date, as well as introducing new modules.

The analysis of the Jangro LMS, a microcosm of the industry, makes for fascinating reading. In the last year, there has been a huge spike in completed courses – an increase of 175% – and if you take into account courses that are close to completion, 

shows that both cleaning companies and operatives are eager for training.

This is not just a UK trend either – our analysis highlights a growing awareness internationally, with a 10% rise in overseas training, from countries including Ireland, France, USA and Australia.

WHAT’S DRIVING THIS

TREND? The convenience, accessibility and flexibility of online training is taking over from the old classroom style training. E-learning platforms, such as the Jangro LMS, offer courses with varying lengths that allow users to train remotely at times that suit them, and to dip in and out of sessions as required.

In addition, online learning is no longer limited to desktop computers or laptops. With the rise of smartphones and tablets, most online training (including Jangro LMS) is optimised to all devices, making it even more versatile. Operatives can now ‘train on the go’ or refer to best practice whilst undertaking a task. The introduction of our Bite-Sized Learning Task Cards has proved extremely popular, as have steps we

have taken to ensure the user journey is appealing. For example, operatives can sign in using their social media log-ins making it quicker and easier.

Commercial cleaning companies  of training their workforce. The marketplace is extremely competitive, and employers that can highlight best practice and prove their staff have the correct training in place to work  high standard, often stand a better chance of being awarded the contract.

The most popular courses completed reflect that the training is also being   the employers’ adherence to health and safety legislation. Interestingly, in second place (12.7%), is the course on Manual Handling – highlighting that companies really are taking a key interest in looking after their employees.

Providing employees with quality  skills and education are improved, which in turn boosts productivity, quality and safety. It’s a win-win situation.
