Joanne Gilliard, CEO at Jangro, explains why it's time for a green spring clean.

Resolving to make better choices is something we usually do at the start of each New Year, but spring is also the perfect time to make a positive change. After all, the season is associated with new beginnings, and, of course, cleaning. After a long winter full of inclement weather and germs, all premises will benefit from a thorough clean – and your bottom line will thank you for it.

There are various reasons why cleanliness has business benefits. Studies indicate that there is a positive correlation between productivity and a clean, tidy workspace. It promotes a healthier working environment, meaning fewer days are lost to sickness. Having a hygienically clean establishment will also help to enhance the perception of your business.

Whilst the majority of people have returned to their pre- pandemic lifestyles, there is still a higher expectation when it comes to cleaning and hygiene levels – which, ultimately, influences a consumer’s decision to return or recommend.

Greener cleaning

The start of warmer and drier days, flowers transitioning from buds to full bloom, and lambing season; this time of year really highlights the beauty of our planet. It also reminds us that we must continue working hard to protect and minimise our impact on the environment.

Spring cleaning and sustainability need not be mutually exclusive. In fact, the cleaning industry has consistently invested in innovation to ensure there are more eco- friendly solutions that are competitively priced, without having to compromise on efficacy.

For example, Jangro’s ntrl range is a collection of natural cleaning products which have been developed with the health of the planet in mind. Registered with The Vegan Society’s Vegan Trademark, its plant-based formulas are 100% biodegradable, contain zero petrochemicals, and can reduce the product’s carbon footprint by up to 85%.

Several products in the range also harness revolutionary probiotic cleaning. This means that they can help to reduce

the presence of harmful bacteria on surfaces, including deep into hard-to-reach cracks and crevices, and continue working after they have been cleaned. Additionally, all packaging is recycled and recyclable.

Spring cleaning hotspots

During the cold and wet months, flooring can take a hammering thanks to the amount of dirt, mud, and grime trodden into it. Hard floors are easier to maintain but any carpets, which can easily trap debris within them, should be thoroughly cleaned with a powerful shampoo.

Washrooms are often perceived as an accurate barometer of the hygiene levels for the overall facility, so it makes sense to give them a thorough clean. Start by checking for any repairs and fix or replace any broken equipment. All areas should be thoroughly sanitised, from the toilets themselves to soap dispensers, mirrors, basins, walls, and cubicle doors.

All walls, surfaces and equipment in the building should be thoroughly cleaned. Remember to address any areas in the building that may be harbouring pathogens. For example, shared keyboards and phones, door handles and lift buttons. Any frequent touchpoints should also be sanitised. On that note, don’t forget to continue to promote healthy hand hygiene behaviour by supplying quality hand sanitising gel for staff and customers to use.

With the arrival of the spring sunshine, it’s important that windows are professionally cleaned. Dirty windows are not only unsightly, but smudges and smears stop sunlight getting through the glass properly, meaning that your facility will appear duller and grubbier than it actually is. They should be cleaned from top to bottom, using a squeegee to achieve a sparkling, streak-free finish.

So, spring into action: implementing a greener, more sustainable clean will pay dividends for you, both commercially and environmentally.
