model in need of review Facilities management service delivery is at a turning point, as ‘historic’ models fail to meet customer needs, found research undertaken by Sheffield Hallam University and commissioned by Interserve.
In a drive to achieve innovation in service delivery within tight cost constraints, commercial organisations are planning to outsource more services through Total Facilities Management (TFM) contracts in the future.
The research, which surveyed 130 facilities managers within the industry, found that companies are frustrated by the limitations of outsourcing on a lowest cost single service model - which is the most
The research questioned individuals around eleven different benefits they can achieve from outsourcing and their response was that an integrated or total facilities management model is the best route to achieve these goals. Benefits include: reduced cost, value for money, added value/ innovation, access to technical expertise, improved management information and ability to focus on core business.
The key findings from this extensive research study are available in a free report called “The changing shape of facilities management procurement” which can be downloaded at:

ThinkFM session to uncover ‘Opportunities in hard times’
Oliver Jones, Chief Executive of Chayora, will be inspiring budding entrepreneurs amongst the facilities management community at ThinkFM on 18th June, as he explores ‘Opportunities in Hard Times’; A session aptly taking place in the ‘Competitive Advantage: Driving Performance and Value’ hub.
There is no doubt that the UK 06
economy is challenging, however some of the most successful enterprises have been born in equally hard economic times. Jones will examine which sectors and services are likely to thrive over the next few years, and identify opportunities and highlight common mistakes.
“Tough times create valuable opportunities, as the political
barriers raised in more affluent times get swept aside. By focusing on business fundamentals: cash, value and a deep understanding of your customers’ needs, new niches can be found and significant ventures created”, observes Oliver Jones.
