WELCOME TO THE FAMILY OF FLOORING

Tomorrow’s Flooring Editor, Charlotte Taylor, talks to Julian Horner, Director of C&H Distribution, who tells her about the thriving family business and their hopes for the future.

It is not often that you hear of family businesses these days, especially in a market rife with competition. But with years of experience and an innovative product selection, combined with that friendly, local service that you come to expect with a family business, you can’t go far wrong.

Situated in Willand, Devon, C&H Distribution, a family- run Vinyl, wood, plank and tile distributor, have taken their company forward with every success within the flooring industry.

Just two years ago, father Brian Horner, and sons Julian and Tony, set up C&H after deciding to put their 90

24

years worth of combined experience in the flooring industry to good use.

“We all came from a flooring backround, with lots of experience between us. We wanted to start out on our own and we couldn’t see anyone out there doing what we wanted to do,” explains Julian, Director.

“We came up with our own ranges and designs, and within just two years our brand became very well- known.”

Since then the company has expanded rapidly, as Julian explains: “We started out with just the three of us and now our entire team consists of eight office staff

and 14 sales staff, a total of 22 altogether.”

We have all experienced that feeling of being welcomed into a family, and as I talk to Julian I can completely vouch for this family’s hospitality as I feel completely comfortable and at ease in his company.

“Family is important to us. Seven members of the team are family and we all make decisions together as a unit - making sure that we are doing the best for our company and ultimately our customers,” he told me.

“This is why people really do enjoy dealing with us. We are approachable and just normal people to be honest -

people who are more than happy to help and are not afraid of getting our hands dirty to get the job done!”

As well as expanding their team, the company has now had to expand their home, for the second time in two years.

“Just six months ago, we moved to a new purpose- built office and warehouse,” says Julian. “But now we have tripled our stock and we are soon to move again, to a new warehouse covering 900 square-metres. We are constantly growing and so proud of our hard work and success.”
