F. BALL CELEBRATES OPENING OF NEW TRAINING CENTRE

Manufacturers of market-leading flooring adhesives and floor smoothing underlayments, F. Ball and Co. Ltd., have celebrated the official opening of a new state-of-the-art training centre at the company’s Cheddleton site. F. Ball directors, including Chairman, Geoffrey Ball, were joined by Chief Executive of the CFA (Contract Flooring Association), Richard Catt, who assisted in the opening ceremony. After the official opening, F. Ball hosted its first training course in the new facility and presented delegates with a celebratory bottle of champagne.

In his speech about the significance of F. Ball’s £1 million investment in the facility, Richard Catt said: “It is great to see a company willing and able to invest in training. This is a serious commitment to training within the flooring industry and helps make F. Ball stand out from other companies. The F. Ball training centre is one of the best I’ve seen in the UK – it is a great facility for F. Ball customers and for the

flooring industry as a whole. Training is one of the cornerstones of the CFA’s philosophies and values and, in addition to their own facility, we are also grateful for F. Ball’s continuing sponsorship of the FITA training centre at Loughborough.”

F. Ball’s new training centre features high-tech conference facilities, meeting rooms and practical demonstration areas. All courses are presented by experts from within the company’s technical department and cover subfloor preparation and adhesive selection, as well as installation advice on F. Ball’s extensive product range.

One and two-day courses are open to flooring contractors of all experience levels, giving them the opportunity to develop or refresh their skills. Delegates are able to gain hands-on experience of applying F. Ball products, including adhesives, smoothing underlayments, repair compounds and waterproof surface membranes.

Richard Harris, Marketing Manager at F. Ball and Co. Ltd, comments: “Our training programme has been designed to be the most comprehensive and authoritative guide to subfloor preparation in the flooring industry. Courses address common issues and include information on the latest advances in flooring adhesive and underlayment technology – enabling contractors to confidently identify the most appropriate products and installation techniques for each project.”

One of the country’s largest hospitals, Birmingham Heartlands, needs to be operating smoothly to provide the best in patient care. The refurbishment of their Children’s OPD Department and the entrance area to their twin theatres needed to be completed on time without any complications so that day-to-day practice could re-commence.

CFA members, Newlay Floors carried out the resurfacing. Existing floor coverings and the old adhesives and smoothing compounds were mechanically removed, followed by new sub-floor

preparation using Ultra Floor DPM IT two coat, Prime IT N and Level IT SmoothFlow.

DPM IT two coat is a solvent free, two-part epoxy resin system. The product cures to provide a waterproof surface membrane that allows fast installation of cement-based surfaces, thus reducing waiting time and costs. During both of these flooring projects, Ultra Floor’s DPM IT A was also used providing much needed versatility as this fast curing additive reduces curing times to only three hours, allowing the substrate to become waterproof within a single day!

Newlay Floors then prepared the waterproofed substrates with Ultra Floor Prime IT N, a polymer emulsion primer for non- porous surfaces so they were ready to receive Level IT SmoothFlow.

Ultra Floor’s newest self- levelling compound, Level IT SmoothFlow, is designed specifically for levelling surfaces prior to the application of a floor covering. A product which has superior flow properties providing a fast and easy application, results in a thin, exceptionally strong and perfectly level underlayment that is ready to receive decorative floor coverings

Level IT SmoothFlow has a set time of two hours and can be laid at depths from 3 to 10mm - covering an optimum 5.5m² at 3mm thickness.

Two different floor coverings were laid, Forbo linoleum and Tarkett vinyl in the Children’s OPD Department and the entrance area respectively.

The projects completed on time within a matter of days resulting in minimal disruption to daily hospital life.
