ARDEX’S NATURAL STONE FIXING SOLUTION DELIGHTS ST DAVID’S

Having completed many prestigious shopping centre installations, ARDEX UK, the leading supplier of premium tile fixing systems, were delighted to work in partnership with Stone Cladding International Ltd of Newton Abbot, to assist with the completion of the vast £675m extension to the existing St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff.

St David’s, which opened in October 2009, has brought new stores, cafes, restaurants and luxury residential apartments to the heart of Cardiff, as well as enhanced public areas and facilities, a new central library and a modernisation of the existing St David’s Shopping Centre. During its construction, St David’s was one of the most important city developments in the UK, and the largest private financial investment in Wales.

ARDEX is renowned within the tile industry as pioneering manufacturers of innovative tile fixing products. Their desire to produce products that meet the demands of today’s tiling trends has seen ARDEX develop a range of luxury tile adhesives and grouts specifically designed to be ideal for use with natural stone.

For this installation, ARDEX X 7001 W Rapid Drying

General Purpose Adhesive in white was used to fix 8,000m2 of limestone floor tiling throughout the malls. Developed using the MICROTEC® fibre reinforcement technology, ARDEX X 7001 W is now widely recognised as the most advanced tile adhesive for use with natural stone.

Suitable for fixing limestone, and light coloured and translucent marble, ARDEX X 7001 W delivers premium

performance with an excellent one hour pot-life – which is double the time of most rapid set adhesives! Additional built in features assure tile fixers of an advanced performance, including rapid hardening and drying, which enables grouting just two hours after fixing, excellent adhesion and a mix consistency that facilitates solid bedding.

Stephen Facey, Managing Director of Stone Cladding International commented: “St David’s required a totally reliable, and proven tile fixing solution that guaranteed suitability for use with limestone tiles. By combining our vast expertise, with the outstanding tile fixing solutions from ARDEX, we were able to provide a perfect finish to this amazing new development.”
