THE GREEN FLOORZONE PACKAGE | FLOWCRETE

Wouldn’t it be great if architects could take the headache out of specifying flooring in new-build, retro-fit or refurbishment commercial developments with a single-source floor build-up package including floor finish, levelling screed, heating and acoustic insulation? Wouldn’t it be even better if each component offered tangible environmental, life-cycle or cost-saving efficiencies? That’s what Flowcrete UK hopes to deliver with the launch of its GREEN Floorzone package.

The GREEN Floorzone package One warranty covers each and every layer of the floor build- up and on top of that, design and installation is covered by Flowcrete UK’s dedicated Project Management service – simplifying the specification process and ensuring single- source responsibility for the entire floor build-up before, during and after installation.

So what’s included within the Floorzone build-up? A levelling Isocrete GREEN Screed is used to prepare the surface to receive a floor covering as well as to smooth out any lumps and bumps on the concrete substrate prior to the application of a floor finish. Incorporating a screed layer is critical to providing added strength, and, if installed correctly, can remain in situ for the lifetime of the building itself.

The GREEN Screeds range from Flowcrete UK offers accelerated drying times, even when installed at high thicknesses, allowing for the early installation of moisture sensitive finishes. In most

instances same day floor covering is a realistic possibility.

Flowcrete’s Isocrete GREEN Screeds are free from Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and contain up to 40% recycled material, much of which has been reclaimed from heavy industry waste streams and would otherwise be sent directly to landfill. Any of the GREEN Screeds can be installed in conjunction with the company’s proprietary underfloor heating system or sound-proofing acoustic foam layer – or even with a combination of both systems to deliver a sub-floor with real added value for the end client.

Flowcrete’s water-based underfloor heating system, Isowarm, offers clients energy-savings of up to 30% compared to traditional heating technologies and can be powered by UV solar panels as well as ground-source or air-source heat pumps.

The underfloor heating pipes can be secured to an Extended Polystyrene (EPS) board, which not only contains up

to 40% recycled material but is also free from CFCs and HCFCs – both of which can be damaging to the o-zone layer.

Isocrete Acoustic Foam offers that extra peace of mind by delivering a 100% recyclable sound-proofing layer than actively reduces sound transfer between floors in mixed use and multi- occupancy environments, exceeding the requirements set out by Approved Document E of the Building Regulations.

To top it off, clients can choose from Flowcrete’s extensive range of commercial resin floor finishes all of which have been designed to deliver a vibrant, decorative and safe platform to walk over at ground level. Epoxy resin systems offer smooth, high- gloss and colourful platforms that compliment contemporary interiors whereas fast-cure MMA resin systems, which see coloured floor flakes or quartz aggregates scattered within a resin matrix, may be more appropriate for projects that need to be delivered under a quick turnaround.

For the ultimate floor finish, Flowcrete has designed a number of seamless terrazzo systems that incorporate a stylish mix of aggregates, which are set in a coloured epoxy or polyurethane resin and ground to a smooth, sealed finish to reveal a range of recycled crystal glass, mirror glass or mother-of- pearl particles.

To complement the GREEN Floorzone package, Flowcrete UK has launched a new terrazzo system, Mondéco Mirrazzo, which contains up to 60% recycled aggregates and comes available in a number of eco, neutral and calming tones. The GREEN Floorzone package is ideally suited to schools and colleges as well as healthcare facilities, leisure centre and retail developments including supermarkets and shopping malls.
