HARROGATE REVIEW
THE HARROGATE FLOORING SHOW 2011: THE REVIEW
With another Harrogate Flooring Show done for another year, our Assistant Editor, Eve Douglas, reveals her favourite bits about the show and looks at how some of the biggest names there got on.
This year’s Harrogate Flooring Show was the first one I had ever been to, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. In between looking at some of the fantastic stands, to meeting some interesting people, I had a great weekend and made some really useful contacts. With this being my first ever trade show, I had no idea what to expect and, to be honest, I was really blown away by the effort that so many companies go to to ensure their stand looks the best. I thought Lifestyle Floors had a particularly impressive stand. They were situated right opposite us and their stand looked almost like a shop! Other highlights included the recycling machine on Carpenter’s stand, the excellent F. Ball drinks reception (which included lots of fizz and canapés!), the very well- attended Crown Floors event at the Hotel Du Vin, and the interactive screen on Mapei’s
stand, that I saw children and adults alike having a go on.
If, like me, you’ve never been to a trade show before, I would certainly recommend it. The conversations you have and the people you get to speak to face to face would take years of emails and phone calls to organise, not to mention round the world trips in some cases. But, if like some of my colleagues, you are a seasoned professional and this was your billionth (and counting) show, then I hope you enjoyed it as much as me.
That’s probably quite enough from me, so we also caught up with some of those exhibiting at Harrogate to see how they got on.
Avenue Super stylish Belgian flooring company, Avenue, were situated in Hall M on stand M25 and their cushion floor ranges were the
defining highlights of Avenue’s attendance at this year’s Harrogate Floor Show.
Part of the increasingly dominant cushion floor specialist IVC Group, Avenue used the event to reinforce its growing reputation as a supplier focused on delivering quality independent retailers an arsenal of products designed to push forward the sector in both style and performance. With collections such as Ultimate Oak and Precious Metals, Avenue is carving a niche in a market previously dominated by less style sensitive products, while still retaining the ethos of excellent value and reliable performance at its core.
Caroline Wille, Product Manager for the brand, said: “Our stand at this year’s event just proves that we are continuing to push
boundaries within the sector. The Avenue name has
a growing reputation among retailers for cushion floors that offer on-trend takes on popular themes, serving up something a little special and helping the brand to forge a serious standing among consumers looking for the very best in cushion floors.”
