A DVD OF DISCOVERY

Axminster Carpets is famed for the production of beautiful woven carpets and now it is revealing the story behind its success in a new DVD.

With increased interest in wool products and consumers becoming more concerned with the origin of products that they buy, the timely DVD presents the entire carpet production process, charting each aspect that goes to make

UK made carpets from Axminster among the best in the industry.

Recording the production of woven carpets on the Devon site, the DVD also takes viewers on a voyage to Ireland, to see tufted carpet production as well as exploring the manufacturer’s acclaimed Axfelt underlay production that sees Axminster Carpets’ re-purpose much of its carpet production waste.

Richard Lawrence, Head of Marketing, Axminster Carpets, explained: “Few consumers really appreciate the time and care that goes into making beautiful carpets and we hope that this DVD will go some way in making that a thing of the past. We feel that with a clearer understanding of how carpet is made, viewers will appreciate the dedication and attention to detail that goes to make the

unmistakable quality of Axminster Carpets.”

The DVD will be available in a full-length version for retailers and training purposes, and an edited format for individual consumers.

INTEREST IN TAKE-BACK SCHEMES GROWS

Support for waste carpet take-back schemes that divert material from landfill for recycling is growing. Research reported by Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) has even suggested that around three-quarters of retailers’ customers would pay for this service, with 74% of the Carpet Foundation members surveyed admitting that

they would pay for removal of carpet waste by their retailer.

“This high figure is very encouraging and would be a significant help in diverting greater waste carpet volumes from landfill,” commented Jane Gardner, who works for the industry- backed association for recycling and reusing

carpet; Axion Consulting.

“Having expanded our UK- wide specialist recycler network from six to 24 in the last two years, retailers can find an alternative, cost-saving disposal route to landfill. Retailers are an important part of the supply chain and participating in take-back schemes offers a number of benefits.

“Diverting carpet waste from landfill helps retailers to increase their environmental credentials and save on wa]ste disposal costs, while further enhancing their service to customers.” Jane concluded.
