ENHANCING DRUG DISCOVERY On the Persomics ImagineArray


Porvair Sciences has collaborated with Persomics to develop and supply ANSI/SLAS format arrays as an OEM product for its ImagineArray platform.

Each spot is a unique experiment that edits or silences a single gene in cells growing above the RNA spot. Each spot encapsulates an individual or pooled gRNA, siRNA or miRNA and all the reagents needed for transfection. ImagineArrays enable researchers to edit or silence thousands of genes on a single slide.


Boost to UK capability in genomics


Earlham Institute (EI) has added Illumina’s NovaSeq 6000 to its national capability in genomics and single cell analysis, harnessing the power of ultra-high throughput sequencing for Norwich Research Park and the wider bioscience community. The new platform will increase its sequencing capacity threefold and enable big data science more rapidly


and cost-effectively than ever before. It has the capacity and power to sequence billions of reads; the equivalent of up to nine wheat genomes or two human genomes in two days. The state-of-the-art sequencing


technology will make genome research more accessible to other institutes at NRP, industry partners and a global community of bioscience researchers.


SAFE EVAPORATION


Genevac has introduced its HT Series 3 evaporators with an Inert Gas Purge (IGP) option that enables safe operation even when removing highly explosive solvents such as diethyl ether. To eliminate these risks, the


IGP system purges the air from the HT Series 3 evaporator using an inert gas prior to commencing the evaporation process. As the highest risk of explosion exists at the beginning of the evaporation, when there is a mixture of solvent vapour and oxygen in the evaporation chamber, the IGP may be ‘locked on’, ensuring all users are automatically protected by this facility.


The IGP option can also be useful where an inert atmosphere is required to help protect hygroscopic or oxygen-sensitive samples at the end of the evaporation or concentration process. IGP controls gases entering the evaporator, therefore at the end of the evaporation process, instead of releasing the vacuum by letting air into the chamber, inert gas is introduced instead. The inert gas atmosphere in the evaporator is maintained until the user opens the system to retrieve their samples. The HT Series 3 makes optimising evaporation processes effortless.
