Compact decapper streamlines lab tube handling
Corrosion-resistant multi-position analogue hot plates and stirrers
Torrey Pines Scientific, Inc unveils its new corrosion-resistant analogue hot plates and stirrers, available in 5- and 9-position configurations, designed for acid digestions and handling corrosive solutions.
These units feature a 12” (305 mm) square ceramic heater top with a temperature range up to 450°C. A purge port for inert gas is located at the rear, allowing easy purging with positive pressure. The chassis is sealed to prevent corrosive vapours from entering and damaging electronics or stirrer motors.
The 5-position model is ideal for stirring 5–800ml beakers, while the 9-position model accommodates 9–500ml beakers. Both models offer stirring speeds between 100 and 1500 rpm, with individual control for each position.
Measuring 19” (432 mm) deep by 12.5” (318 mm) wide by 5.25” (134 mm) tall, these units support over 50 pounds (22.6 kg) on the plate surface. Controls are positioned safely away from the heater to prevent burns, and the design protects the chassis from spills.
Azenta Life Sciences has introduced the IntelliXcap™ S1 - an intuitive, single-tube decapper/recapper designed to eliminate strain and streamline the manual processing of large-format tubes in busy laboratories.
Compatible with a wide variety of tube sizes and styles - from centrifuge and cell culture tubes to glass sample vials (11–40 mm diameter) - the IntelliXcap S1 removes the need for manual cap gripper changes. This built-in versatility allows users to switch between tube types without interruptions, simplifying workflows across different applications.
With its ergonomic, one-handed operation, the IntelliXcap S1 is built for comfort and ease, reducing the risk of repetitive strain injuries during routine use. The motorised system applies consistent torque every time, ensuring a secure, reliable seal that protects sample integrity while removing the variability of manual recapping.
Designed to fit into tight spaces - including biosafety cabinets and crowded workbenches - the IntelliXcap S1 delivers high performance in a small footprint. It’s an ideal solution for labs looking to improve consistency and throughput without sacrificing valuable bench space.
Whether supporting daily sample prep or occasional processing tasks, the IntelliXcap S1 offers a dependable and cost-effective upgrade for any lab still relying on manual recapping.

An alternative solution to rotary evaporators for solvent evaporation
Concentrators (nitrogen blowdown concentrators) are becoming increasingly used as an alternative to rotary evaporators due to both the speed of evaporation and space saving in the laboratory. Solvent evaporation is accelerated by decreasing the partial vapour pressure of the solvent just above the surface of the liquid. The systems use a heated water bath or dry block heating with programmable temperatures and a nitrogen purge to provide high speed evaporation. The nitrogen purge and evaporated solvent are removed safely using either an integral exhaust system that can be connected to the laboratory extraction system or fume hood or can be used in a fume hood.
A range of four Labtech laboratory concentrators is available from Analytix that provide solvent evaporation from 6, 10, 64 samples up to a system for 96 well plates. The mid-range 10 position MultiVap system supports simultaneous evaporation with 50 and 200ml cups with an automatic detection of liquid endpoint with infrared sensors. Most of the systems support a multiple range of vial sizes and have a touch screen terminal for easy programming.

New module streamlines fl ow chemistry automation and data logging
Vapourtec has launched a Reaction Controller and Datalogger Module designed to simplify the automation and monitoring of fl ow chemistry processes - particularly when using equipment from multiple vendors.
Compatible with a wide range of third-party pumps, recirculators, fl ow meters, sensors, and balances, the module extends Vapourtec’s automation platform into pilot and production environments. Researchers and process chemists can now streamline reaction control and centralise data logging without the need for time-consuming system reconfi guration or manual data entry.
The module offers fl exible control of liquid and gas delivery systems via serial or analogue interfaces, and switching for valves and fl ow devices. It supports precise monitoring of fl ow rates, pressure, temperature (via PT100 sensors and thermocouples), and mass using a broad array of standard laboratory equipment.
“Whether you’re automating a single experiment or managing a sequence of reactions, this module helps improve accuracy, reproducibility and safety,” said Duncan Guthrie, Managing Director of Vapourtec. “It also removes the hassle of reprogramming and manual data handling, freeing up valuable time for analysis and process optimisation.”
The Reaction Controller and Datalogger is ideal for labs and process development settings looking to integrate diverse hardware into cohesive, automated workfl ows.
