Chromatography 7 DRI Detector Delivers Outstanding GPC/SEC Results

Operating from room temperature up to 80°C, with high thermal stability, the Testa Analytical Differential Refractive Index (DRI) detector offers highly accurate and reliable determination of absolute concentration and total mass balance in GPC/SEC applications.

DRI detectors are the most commonly used GPC/SEC detectors because of their universal applicability; they do not require chromophores to be present in the analyte. As such, they find wide application for determination of polymer concentration but also very frequently are used for the detection of a wide range of macromolecules.

Professor Slawomir Kadlubowski of the Lodz University of Technology, Poland said: “The baseline signal stability of any GPC/SEC detector is particularly important, as it is a limiting factor in peak determination. We invested in a Testa Analytical DRI detector for our polymer research because it is the best match for our MALS detector to obtain absolute molecular weights. The wavelength of the two detectors is exactly the same which give us great confidence in the Debye constant used as the concentration obtained via the DRI is determined at the correct dn/ dc of the sample, no assumptions needed.”

Continuing Professor Kadlubowski commented: “The Testa DRI detector’s outstanding stability is vital for our high-resolution GPC/SEC applications especially when several columns are utilised which often results in long chromatographic separation times of up to one hour. Our researchers have also appreciated the broad media compatibility of the DRI detector, and its built-in automatic cell-safety shut off capability that eliminates the possibility of the GPC/SEC flow cell bursting in the case of a blockage.”

HPLC Tubing Straightener and Pliers

These pliers from MicroSolv Technology Corporation can ensure you have good internal flow path in your HPLC tubing to avoid band broadening and other flow issues. Including soft grips and two centre holes where one hole is slightly larger than 1/16” and the other is slightly larger than 1/8”. This tool for chromatography is designed to remove kinks and bends in stainless steel tubing or for making seamless bends when you squeeze the pliers. This will help to insure you have a good internal flow path in your HPLC stainless steel tubing and no void problems due to bent or kinked tubing.

The Beta Tool-2™ features a shorter and rounded nose than most precision pliers and it can reach further into an HPLC Instrument to work with tubing that is already installed. You can now enhance your data with improved flow.

New Gas Chromatographs for On-line Natural Gas Analysis

The new gas analyser DynamiQ-X NG2210 from Sensirion provides fast and accurate on-line monitoring of natural gas and delivers calorific values for composition control and custody transfer purposes. Meanwhile, the DynamiQ-X NG2220 performs the same analysis for natural gas containing hydrogen at concentrations as high as 20% using only one carrier gas. The DynamiQ-X NG2210 and DynamiQ-X NG2220 can be integrated into many locations of the natural gas infrastructure, including natural gas city gate stations, blending stations, natural gas conditioning stations, offshore systems and power-to-gas systems. With a volume of only 10 L and weighing less than 15 kg, the instruments are easy to transport and can be deployed anywhere for analyses, if local power and gas bottles are available.

The instruments can accommodate two or three gas chromatograph (GC) units working in parallel, each performing a different GC analysis under individually optimised conditions. Each GC unit contains a state-of-the-art microchip-based injector and a thermal conductivity detector (TCD) combined with a proven microbore GC column and is set with optimal chromatography conditions. This configuration enables an accurate instrument as well as a very short analysis time of less than a minute.

DynamiQ-X is designed as a stand-alone working instrument that uses an integrated processor on a future-proof platform, so that it can carry out continuous monitoring. The instrument contains an easily exchangeable GC cartridge that allows fast local maintenance. In addition, a PC can be connected to the analyser at any location via a network connection.

Sustainability and the facilitation of the energy transition are of global importance today. Qmicro by Sensirion has therefore developed the DynamiQ-X NG2210 and NG2220: as solutions to increase gas analysis capabilities and cover green gases, minimising the total cost of ownership to gas distributors. The analysers’ ability to store data for at least two years, also facilitates compliance with legislation and enables observation of long- term trends.
