Quality control through analysis of CBD particle size

Characterising the particle size distribution of a CBD sample confirms that the milling system used has achieved particles within an acceptable range, has met important criteria for release into the manufacturing process or for product sale, or the efficacy of a compound is based on its particle size. Laser particle size analysers with Reverse-Fourier design offer enormous advantages and greater flexibility compared to conventional sieving. Above all, the Fritsch Laser Particle Sizer A-22 NeXT has proven its capability in characterising CBD isolates in wet or dry dispersion.

Get into contact with our Application Consultants

Finding the perfect solution for your cannabis application is absolutely easy: Contact our application consultants and let them answer all your questions regarding sample preparation and particles sizing. You can also experience the FRITSCH instrument virtually directly at your workplace. Make your appointment now under www.fritsch-international.com/appointment or contact directly our application consultant team on +49 6784 70-0 or by email consultation@fritsch.de The FRITSCH instruments will be presented at Pittcon - Booth 2721

Result of particle sizing of CBD isolate.

Result of particle sizing of CBD isolate using the Fritsch A-22 NeXT before and after homogenisation: The initial sample (black) contained a mixture of loose granules with a wide particle size distribution. The material homogenised using the Fritsch Variable Speed Rotor Mill P-14 classic line (red) resulted in a particle size consistency similar to talcum powder.

Quality Control of Medical Cannabis in Less than 30 Seconds

Legalisation and regulation of medical cannabis by many countries has created a need for rapid quantitative testing of cannabinoids. In a free webinar (can be watched on demand), Dr Dave van Staveren and Andreas Agerer, both from Metrohm International Headquarters, present how Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) can be utilised for rapid, non-destructive product screening on various cannabis products, including cannabis oils, waxes, tinctures, and hemp.

While different analytical techniques have been utilised for product screening on cannabis, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) is faster and easier to use than established standard techniques (e.g., HPLC): The cannabis matrix can be analysed as is and accurate results for the concentration of the different cannabinoids (THC, CBD, CBG) and the moisture content is provided in less than 30 seconds.

Key learning points: general info - which are the main cannabinoids to test for; the principle of NIRS and how this technology is applied to cannabis testing in compliance with 21 FDA CFR Part 11; the advantages and limitations of NIRS compared to primary measuring techniques.

New White Paper Explains the Benefi ts of High-quality ACS-Grade Reagent Chemicals to Accelerate Pharmaceutical Development

If you work in the pharmaceutical industry, you know that high quality reagent chemicals are critically important to ensure the integrity of analytical testing for research and development purposes as well as in the manufacturing of drug formulations. To meet these demands, the American Chemical Society (ACS) Committee on Reagent Chemicals has compiled the ‘de facto’ source of monographs for ACS-grade reagent chemicals including guidelines, specifications, and analytical procedures, which is recognised by the United States Pharmacopeia in its USP-NF book of compendial standards. For the very first time since its publication, ACS Reagent Chemicals is now available online in a seamless, searchable data base, which means it can be accessed by anyone, anytime, anywhere in the world.

If you are a producer of pharmaceuticals, learn how this invaluable resource can benefit your organisation including: strategies to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies; tips to expedite pharmaceutical development; purity specifications for over 500 ACS reagent chemicals; updated analytical testing procedures; a case study on replacing the sulphide precipitation test for heavy metals with plasma spectrochemistry; guidelines for implementing meaningful validation protocols.
