Microscopy & Microtechniques 47 New Generation Automated Raman Imaging Microscope Introduced

WITec GmbH establishes the next level of automation and user-friendliness with the introduction of the new alpha300 apyron. Its AutoBeam technology unlocks the full potential of WITec’s industry-leading alpha300 series. The alpha300 apyron’s entirely new optical, analytical and remote operation capabilities mark the furthest advance yet in speed, sensitivity and resolution.

The alpha300 apyron can self-align and self-calibrate, which substantially reduces the researcher’s experimental workload by requiring less user input, enhancing reproducibility and eliminating potential sources of error. This is made possible by a complete set of WITec’s AutoBeam opto- mechanical components, a new and versatile tool kit that can be configured to create the perfect experimental setup for every investigation.

New functionalities provided by AutoBeam modules include polarisation-dependent measurements with motorised polariser and analyser rotation, push-button spectrometer connection and signal maximisation, and automated adjustment of both iris diaphragms. Software-driven automation also allows the alpha300 apyron to be operated completely remotely, whether in an environmental enclosure such as a glove box, or from another location.

Available with a wide variety of excitation wavelengths from the ultraviolet through the visible into the near infrared, alpha300 apyron microscopes can be equipped with up to three ultra-high throughput WITec UHTS spectrometers and their accompanying range of detectors. Raman imaging and correlative measurements are defined, executed, saved and evaluated with WITec’s Suite FIVE software and intuitive EasyLink handheld controller.

WITec began automating Raman imaging measurements with the first generation apyron. Its advanced technology was introduced to the alpha300 line in stages of spiral development. The new consolidated alpha300 series is a continuous spectrum, from the entry-level access up to the flagship apyron. They all share the same rock-solid stability, fibre-based flexibility and integrated software environment.

The user-friendliness of the alpha300 apyron makes advanced confocal Raman imaging accessible to researchers of all experience levels and fields of application. Scientists working in materials science, environmental science and microparticle analysis, life science, food science, geology, pharmaceutics and many other fields will benefit from automated alignment routines that provide consistently optimised performance. The alpha300 apyron accelerates both the experimental setup and subsequent measurement workflow.

Free of Charge Digitisation Service Announced

Motic, the well-known supplier and developer of solutions of light microscopes and imaging tools with 35 years of global market presence announces a free of charge Digitisation service. This is meant as an effective tool to increase efficiency of work in medical healthcare, where image capturing and fast data exchange for diagnostics today are of higher importance than before.

The MoticEasyScan devices are the basis for a whole slide data acquisition, the DS-Server MotiCloud allows a safe storage of confidential information. Sharing clinical expertise by a worldwide cooperation gives an easy access to a ‘Second Opinion’ from remote located experts. The user may invite a colleague by a simple email for an exchange of opinions.

When the slide samples arrive at Motic Europe office in Barcelona, a dedicated specialist will load a MoticEasyScan system for converting the glass slide information into digital data. During the complete process the European data protection rules are followed in the most serious way.

Once the digital data are created, they will be uploaded to the DS-Server MotiCloud for a period of 12 weeks. The access to these image files can be granted only by the original user through email. A data transfer by Motic to third parties is strictly excluded by law. The image data as well as any added document for diagnostics uploaded on the DS-Server MotiCloud stay as an exclusive property of the initial user.

“This Digitization Service is an offer in times when the world gets closer and the fight for our common health is the most important issue”, Andres Lopez,

Product Specialist and Sales Manager at Motic Europe, stated. “We regard the efficiency of our MoticEasyScan systems as extremely helpful these days and like to support all people fighting in this crisis.” Motic products are distributed through a network of well-known lab suppliers and dedicated microscope specialists. The Digitization Service will be free of charge until end of September 2020. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/jvQL

52102pr@reply-direct.com Four-colour Laser Combiner for Biophotonics and Microscopy

The iChrome CLE represents the easy to use entry point for a fully integrated and automised laser engine. Customers can take care of their research without the need to ever manually align their illumination source. Hands free operation and auto-alignment makes it a perfect fit for OEM customers.

Toptica’s iChrome CLE is a compact laser engine that combines four laser lines in one box. All integrated colours are provided via one polarisation-maintaining single-mode fibre. It is available with 405, 488, 561 and 640 nm and more than 50 mW guaranteed output power after the fibre each.

Easy OEM integration is enabled via the fully unified user interface. With its auto-alignment feature the laser combiner system is ready-to-use after one simple button click. The 561 nm laser light is generated by Toptica’s proprietary FDDL (Frequency Doubled Diode Laser) technology. Each laser line, including the 561nm FDDL, can be directly modulated up to a frequency of 1 MHz and Toptica’s ‘Complete OFF’ mechanism guarantees zero photons in the ‘off’-state.

Additional developments in high-end laser technology from Toptica include Single mode diode lasers, Multi-laser engines, widely Tunable Lasers and powerful Femtosecond Fiber lasers, as well as Terahertz systems. Toptica’s lasers enable a variety of demanding applications in biophotonics and microscopy, materials and test & measurement.

Nanoelectrical and Environmental Control Accessories for Large-Sample AFM Announced

Oxford Instruments Asylum Research announces the release of accessories enabling environmental control and nanoelectrical measurements on the Jupiter XR large-sample atomic force microscope (AFM).The accessories include the PolyHeater, for heating samples up to 300°C, the CoolerHeater, with a cooling/ heating range of -30 to 120°C, a fluid cell and probe holder for imaging in liquid, and conductive AFM probe holders for nanoelectrical measurements.

“Many research fields require environmental control, for instance, to mimic real-life conditions or to explore thermal properties. Similarly, nanoelectrical measurements are crucial to fields including semiconductor materials, 2D materials, and other functional materials. These new accessories for Jupiter XR enable even wider experimental possibilities for multi-user, multi-disciplinary laboratories,” said Dr Marta Kocun, Product Manager at Asylum Research.

Jupiter XR features a fully-addressable 200 mm sample chuck, simple and intuitive software control of system setup including laser and detector alignment, automated optimisation of imaging parameters, automated multi-site imaging and analysis, and Asylum Research’s unique blueDrive tapping mode for improved tip lifetime and measurement repeatability. It is also the world’s most versatile large-sample AFM, incorporating Asylum Research’s extraordinary range of capabilities and accessories and a modular design that supports future expansion. The Jupiter XR is the ideal research platform for research environments, high-throughput industrial applications and failure analysis labs. No matter the application, no other large-stage AFM can match Jupiter’s ease of use, speed, performance and flexibility.
