34 New Ultra-Effective Surface Sanitiser Gives Workplaces a Clean Bill of Health
With the UK Government continuing to ease lockdown measures, increasing numbers of companies and commercial premises are opening for business after a hiatus due to COVID-19. To help protect the health of those making their way back to the offi ce, factory, shop, pub, gym or any other place of work, a new ultra-effective surface sanitiser - Hi-KLEEN - is being introduced by Hi-line Industries. Spraying a single coating of HI-KLEEN on to surfaces such as doors, handles, handrails, chairs and desks will not only kill coronavirus, it will provide protection against further contamination for up to fi ve hours.
Hi-KLEEN has been specially formulated to kill and inhibit both bacteria and viruses (including enveloped viruses such as coronavirus) on hard or soft surfaces subject to frequent contact. Simply spray at a distance of approximately 10–20 cm from the surface to be treated for effective protection. This odour-free, clear product is ideal for offi ces, factories (including food plants), conference centres, sports clubs, hospitals, health centres, educational facilities, care homes, entertainment/hospitality venues (including restaurants and pubs), and even transport.
Notably, active biocides present in the formulation provide longer-lasting protection than alcohol-based preparations. Hi-line’s new surface sanitiser does not stain, is non-corrosive and will give a streak and smear-free fi nish to most polished surfaces, including glass and stainless steel. The product is safe to use and alcohol-free, meaning that there is no drying or irritation to the skin.
To provide proof of effi cacy in the control of harmful micro-organisms, HI-KLEEN has been tested to BS EN 1276, which is the European standard for the bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants. In order to meet the standard, products are tested by an independent laboratory and must kill 99.999% of bacteria within 5 minutes.
Composed of organic, non-chlorinated solvents, HI-KLEEN is offered by Hi-line Industries in both 500ml aerosols and disposable 17kg canisters. The latter is particularly useful for those looking to sanitise entire rooms, providing a typical coverage of 750 square metres. Canisters are connected by either a 3.5 or 5.5 metre hose to a spray gun, delivering an easy-to-use, self-contained, time-saving spraying system that requires minimal set-up.
Any business owners or managers worried about controlling the spread of COVID-19 as the country returns to work can rely on HI-KLEEN to keep surfaces and rooms free of harmful contamination, in turn protecting the health of staff and visitors alike.

Powder Dosing Technology Recognised with the Queen’s Award 2020 for Enterprise in Innovation
3P is delighted to have been awarded with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, in recognition of their Fill2Weight powder micro-dosing technology. Fill2Weight was developed 12 years ago after 3P engineers identifi ed challenges in the fi eld of micro-dosing and fi lling of powders for inhalers, that could be overcome with the application of technologies in a new and novel way. The Queen’s Awards have recognised the technology as a great example of innovation, where several different technologies have been combined into one highly effective and versatile solution.
Now used for multiple pharmaceutical applications, Fill2Weight precisely fi lls a wide range of pharmaceutical containers, including capsules, vials, inhalers, syringes, cartridges, blisters and other special containers.
A major challenge Fill2Weight addresses is getting challenging powders to fl ow so that very small (down to 1mg) and precise doses can be created. This is essential for high-potency drugs, where inaccurate dosing poses risks to patient safety. Its gravimetric system weighs and verifi es every dose. Any doses outside the limits are rejected.
As well as excelling in accuracy, Fill2Weight is the fastest gravimetric dosing system on the market. Fill2Weight’s ability to handle challenging powders helps reduce drug development lead-times by enabling pharma companies to avoid or reduce the need for costly and time consuming ‘formulation for fi lling’ development work. This means customers can achieve ‘fi rst-in-human’ milestones faster, with potential for new drug launch in shorter time-frames.
Fill2Weight is a fl exible and scalable system, ensuring early-stage manufacturing processes can also be used for commercial production. Its narrow design allows for multiple modules to be installed side-by- side, creating a multi-lane solution for higher volume production.
Another challenge 3P addressed was to ensure the technology could accommodate changing powder properties throughout a batch. Conventional fi lling systems cannot do this, affecting accuracy. Fill2Weight’s intelligent software algorithms automatically detect changing properties and modify dose settings to suit.
Fill2Weight’s technology requires as little as 2-3 grams for doses to be created for administration to patients or for other development tests, minimising the amount of drug product required. Unused powder can be recovered, meaning zero waste.

Good Laboratory Practices Software Upgrade Announced Biotage AB is pleased to announce the launch of a Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) software upgrade for Biotage®
Extrahera™, their fl agship automated sample preparation instrument for Supported
Liquid Extraction (SLE), Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), Phospholipid Depletion (PLD) and Protein Precipitation (PPT). Biotage customers can now harness the system’s advanced automation tools with the Good Laboratory Practices required by today’s modern laboratories. GLP has evolved from a variety of regulatory bodies, such as the OECD and FDA, and aim to harmonise rules and practices for non-clinical studies, applicable for both public and private organisations. These polices are in place to ensure the quality and validity of data produced have met a standard criteria, ensuring the safety of the study. In essence, GLP is about organising and recording how the study was planned, administered, monitored, and documented.
The new GLP software helps laboratory managers to administer the operation of the system, defi ning users and their different roles, this in turn assists data security through password protection and restricted access levels. The software also enables the system to be networked, opening up options for data handling across a network and management of the system remotely. Finally, the new software creates a detailed audit trail, documenting all activities, including user credentials and reasons for making any method changes.
Biotage has also added a number of non-GLP benefi ts to the software including single sample processing, dual mode extraction and barcode management. “Since its introduction in 2015, the Biotage® Extrahera™ has transformed automated sample preparation with its precision engineering, easy to use software and fl exible formats; now, with the new GLP software package, users can combine the utility of advanced laboratory automation with the organisational features used under GLP,” said Dr Dan Menasco, Global Technical Product Manager, Analytical, Biotage.
