18 ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY

New shaker series for every shaking application launched

International Environmental Justice -

Competing Claims and Perspectives International Environmental Justice offers a unique angle on this complex topic by providing an understanding of environmental justice from both a United States and an international perspective. Environmental justice encompasses the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people – regardless of race, class, or colour – with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies that could negatively impact their lifestyles.

The WS-350 series are the latest shakers launched by Wiggens, According to different experimental requirements the three models correspond to different modes of shaking. Various accessories are available for each model.

The Wiggens WS-350R Rocking Shaker is innovatively designed for use in a wide range of lab applications. The instrument provides a controlled seesaw-like motion, while the shakers offer a smooth, low-foaming, 3D wave motion. Each unit includes a dimpled mat and universal harness. The working speed ranges from 5rpm to 100rpm with an adjustable tilt angle and working time.

The WS-350W Waving Shaker offers simple adjustments for tilt angle and speed. This waving shaker is innovatively designed for use in a wide range of lab applications. The WS-350W provides controlled orbital motion, while the shakers offer a smooth, low-foaming, 3D wave motion. Each unit includes a dimpled mat and universal harness. With a working speed ranging from 8rpm to 100rpm, the instrument has an adjustable tilt angle and working time.

The WS-350P Microplate Shaker is driven by brushless DC motor. It is mainly used for the mixed oscillation of enzyme label plates (96-well/384-well plate), cell culture plates (24-well plates, 48-well plates, 96-well plates) and micro and conical tubes. It can be used in immunoassays, staining and other experiments. Featuring a compact design, the instrument provides simple and convenient operation, safety, stability and no noise. The working speed ranges from 150rpm to 1200rpm.

The focus of this book is to offer a critical perspective, which advances the idea that environmental management and human rights are inherently interrelated. Each chapter covers a different case study that examines people and groups who have been unfairly exposed to unreasonable environmental conditions in different parts of the world.

It opens with an understanding of environmental justice claims, including the modern environmental movement, environmental justice movement, and the Government’s response. The subsequent chapters explore the anti-liquid natural gas movement in Malibu and Oxnard, California; a case study modelling collaboration for access to clean water for indigenous peoples in Mexico; petroleum extraction, indigenous people and environmental injustice in the Ecuadorian Amazon; towards environmental equity in Nepalese community forestry; a peculiar case of environmental justice in Lesotho; concluding with indigenous rights and justice in environmental politics.

Essential reading for those with an interest in the social impact of environmental issues, environmental planners, and regulatory bodies. The book’s approach is interdisciplinary and features cross-curriculum perspectives including anthropological, business, sociological and cultural viewpoints.

Originally developed to capture viruses and bacteria pathogens from the air during handling in biology laboratories, Halo Smart P air stations are recommended for any enclosed or poorly ventilated space where people gather.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are particularly suitable for spaces which make wearing a mask impossible - restaurants, long-term care facilities, staff and school dining halls - or diffi cult, as well as in places where social distancing is challenging, such as enclosed offi ces and elevators.

Halo Smart P is particularly suitable for air treatment in spaces where people gather: education, hotels and restaurants, shopping, assisted living and other enclosed or confi ned spaces.

In-line sample preparation (ILSP) uses the power of an LC- MS/MS to streamline and automate sample extract clean-up. Restek’s Revive ILSP Pesticides cartridges are an ideal sample preparation alternative for food safety labs seeking to spend less time and money on multiresidue pesticides samples without sacrifi cing performance. Revive ILSP Pesticides cartridges separate analytes from potentially interfering matrix components just like conventional QuEChERS and SPE methods do, but they replace time-consuming manual procedures with a faster automated clean-up process that occurs on the instrument concurrently with sample analysis.

With a Revive ILSP Pesticides cartridge, six-port valve, and an independent isocratic pump, your instrument can be transformed into an analytical workhorse, combining sample clean- up and analysis in a single, effi cient method. Signifi cantly decrease sample preparation time, cut the costs associated with disposable sample prep products, and reduce errors related to manual procedures by integrating Revive ILSP into your current methods for multiresidue pesticides analysis in foods.
