Thank you Exd Connectors Now Available In Stainless Steel

The Exd explosion and flame proof Connectors from Trolex (UK)are now available in stainless steel in addition to brass.

Certified for use in both underground mining and industrial hazardous area applications, the TX3700 and TX3701 Connectors are exceptionally high quality and robust. Made to IP67, the stainless steel housing has shock protecting fenders, captive protection caps immediately to hand and two body shell sizes for optimal performance.

The Connectors give a choice of 3,4,8,10,26 or 37 contact ways for control circuits and medium power circuits as well as high voltage versions.

Since its introduction over 20 years ago, the Trolex Exd Connector has firmly established itself as the pre-eminent connector of choice in the industry. Many thousands have been successfully employed in oil and gas exploration and process plants, with a proven record of reliability.

No special tools or filling compounds are needed for a simple installation and assembly as the two large, accessible screw fasteners unite the connectors in seconds. The rapid disconnect features of the connector enables swift replacement or removal of critical plant equipment in hazardous areas with minimum downtime.

One of the important benefits of the design simplicity is an improved assurance of safety standards for installers and users

in hazardous areas. Significant savings in installation costs are also achieved through the ease of cable termination. The uncomplicated design and strength of the connector means it is able to tolerate the hard knocks of day-to-day use in extreme operating conditions.

Detecting for Hydrogen Leaks in Battery Rooms and Back-up Power Facilities

H2scan Corporation (USA) announce that its UK-based representative, Quantitech, Ltd., has delivered 14 of its HY- ALERTA™ 600 Fixed Area Monitors to detect for possible hydrogen leaks in battery rooms. Quantitech Ltd., has supplied DPSS Cabling Services with these hydrogen specific gas monitors that are critical in helping prevent catastrophic power failures and employee injury and eliminating costly false alarms.

These back-up power facilities utilise UPS (uninterruptible power supply) equipment that is often preferred over diesel generators because it not only provides surge protection, but also eliminates the use of fossil fuels and any associated exhaust related issues. However, lead-acid based battery systems have the potential to emit hydrogen in the event of a thermal runaway. Hydrogen is a highly flammable gas at LEL concentrations, so DPSS has installed H2scan’s gas detection technology capable of detecting low levels of hydrogen, even in the presence of other gases that would typically be the source of false alarms.

Quantitech’s Managing Director Keith Golding said, Reader Reply Card no 143 Insight into Dust and Fume Risks

The latest upgrade of Casella CEL’s insight occupational exposure data management software means that it can now be used in conjunction with the company’s popular Microdust Pro real-time monitor to automatically download, manage and report data, so providing exceptionally reliable results when conducting workplace inhalation risk assessments.

Extremely straightforward to use, the improved insight software allows multiple exposure hazards for each employee to be combined and reported in one place and at one time. The software shows the time history of dust exposure and levels so that ‘what if’ calculations can be performed, in order to reduce the risk of employees’ overall exposure to potential hazards and keep them safe. Insight enables data to be downloaded, analysed in tabular and graphical format by name, person, place or process, or exported into other software packages, enabling easy sharing by multiple users.

Insight can also be used to download, interpret and communicate survey data for a wide range of occupational

hazards collected from other monitoring devices such as sound level meters, noise dosimeters and personal air sampling pumps.

The Microdust Pro features an internal data-logger that can store up to 15,700 data points. It has a large LCD display and a unique graphical facility, allowing the user to instantly view dust levels and trends, so making it ideal for walk-through surveys of workplace environments.

Insight is very easy to use, being designed as a tool to reduce the time and effort required by a Health and Safety professional to analyse and report data. Analysis of exposure data is performed automatically, preventing the need to manually calculate exposures for noise, dusts etc.

"We have found that H2scan’s hydrogen leak detectors are the best solution in leak detection, saving companies from expensive power failures resulting in down time. There are many applications for which hydrogen specific monitoring is important. These cover health, safety and process control within a wide variety of industrial applications including petrochemical refineries, hydrogen production, nuclear power/waste and fossil fuel power to name a few."

DPSS ordered the HY-ALERTA™ 600 Fixed Area monitor technology, which provides hydrogenspecific leak detection and measurement of hydrogen and can be scaled to any concentration up

to 5% hydrogen by volume. The monitor is designed for either ceiling or wall mount and has no cross sensitivity to other combustible gases, thereby eliminating false positive alarms and ensuring safety and system reliability.

“The installation of our hydrogen monitors at back-up power facilities is a great example of how we can safely detect possible hydrogen leaks ensuring the safety of our customer’s employees,” said Dennis Reid, H2scan’s President & CEO. “By alerting employees of potential hydrogen leaks, we provide companies with security and peace of mind, resulting in a safer, more profitable operation.”

Cirrus Research (UK) has launched the brand new Optimus Green sound level meter. Designed for environmental, occupational and industrial hygiene noise, Optimus Green is the third range in the Optimus family providing a variety of sound level meters specifically designed to offer a range of applications.

Following increased demand from the QHES market due to increased legislation surrounding environmental noise, the new Optimus Green sound level meter has been created to combine the existing features from the Optimus range with the latest technological innovation and added functionality that is necessary for environmental noise to be accurately measured.

The Optimus Green is suitable for health and safety and environmental measurements. Like the other Optimus sound level meters, it can be used for basic noise and for noise at work measurements and every measurement made contains all of the available functions so there is no risk of selecting the wrong parameter or function. It also benefits from the ergonomically designed case, easy to use interface and 120dB dynamic range featured in the Optimus range, alongside the full free customer support service provided with every Cirrus noise measurement product.

Back, by Popular Demand....Casella’s Own Instrument Scrappage Scheme

Not to be outdone by the success of the government’s car and boiler scrappage schemes, Casella CEL is proud to announce the return of its own extremely popular new-for- old replacement scheme for monitoring instruments.

The company is urging health and safety professionals to trade in their old monitoring devices from any manufacturer, in whatever condition. In return, they will receive a discount of up to 30% on new replacements of all Casella monitoring technology, including sound level meters, dust monitors and air sampling pumps.

These offers are for a limited time only (24th December 2010), so if users are thinking about upgrading any of their old monitoring equipment but don’t have generous budgets, now is the time.
