New Flow Meter for Compressed Air and Gases
Only by knowing your exact compressed air and process gas costs will you be able to unearth significant savings potentials. Irrespective of pressure and temperature, the EE771 flow meter from E+E Elektronik (Austria) measures mass flow or volumetric flow in your supply system with the greatest accuracy. The flow meter can be used effectively to measure the consumption of compressed air, nitrogen, helium, argon, oxygen or other non-corrosive gases.
The design of the new EE771 flow meter is based on the direct thermal mass flow measuring principle. At its heart is an E+E hot-film sensor element proven over several million installations in the automotive industry.
The large 400:1 measuring range ensures precise evaluation throughout the supply system. Even the smallest volumetric flow rates are accurately recorded – an essential prerequisite whether you are calculating usage fees or finding leaks.
The unique mounting concept in combination with a ball valve permits rapid installation and removal of the device that remains operational at all times. That the measuring head can be exchanged in seconds without disconnecting the measuring line is another useful feature for periodic recalibration.
The integrated USB interface allows the customer to easily adapt the flow meter to specific measuring tasks.
Two outputs are available. They can be configured either as analogue outputs (current or voltage), switching outputs or pulse outputs for measuring consumption. The flowmeter requires 18-30VAC/DC power.
Humidity News 2010
Rotronic (Switzerland) presents the new issue of its customer magazine "Humidity News." The 16-page brochure offers an interesting mix of international application reports and information on the latest
products for measuring temperature and humidity.
Among other articles, the reader will find a user report that demonstrates how Rotronic’s measuring units make a significant contribution to increased safety in the French road network. And the authors introduce a British technology company that – with the help of Rotronic’s AirChip3000 – has developed a system that monitors the shelf life of medicines. You can read more in the comprehensive articles on these application histories and much more in the current issue.

New Mass Flowmeters and Controllers to Manage Gas Flow in Specialty and Scientific Research Systems
A new series of Mass Flowmeters and Controllers designed to accurately monitor and control the flow of a wide range of gases electronically is now available from CONCOA(USA). The new series is part of the company’s extensive line of specialty and scientific research gas systems and equipment.
Series MFM Thermal Mass Flowmeters and MFC Thermal Mass Flow Controllers are versatile and designed to be easy to use even for beginners to this type of flow monitoring or control technology. The units have a standard maximum working pressure of 500 psig and are supplied standard with correction factors for Air, Helium Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide, with other factors available on request.
Made from 316L stainless steel bar stock, units are available in a broad range of flows from 0-10 sccm to 0-20 lpm. Their accuracy is very high at + 1% of full scale, and each unit is supplied with a NIST Traceable Calibration Certificate. Circuitry is designed to withstand High RF interference and has a fast response that is proven reliable for performance and accuracy.
Both a single- and four-channel 5-digit display and controller with 16-bit resolution giving a reading accuracy of 0.02% with field selectable voltages of either 110 volt DC or 220 volt DC are available to monitor and control from one to four units. All of the product range is marked CE for compliance with European Union directives for use or sale in the European Union.

2-Year Warranty Coverage for Flow Switches Announced
Sierra Instruments (USA) announces it will offer a 2-year warranty for its entire line of Innova-Switch™ Flow Level Switches.
“We’re committed to the highest quality in all our products, and I think this action proves that we’re thinking ahead for our customers’ long-term benefit,” says Scott Rouse, Sierra Product Manager. “
Sierra’s Innova-Switch™ has been a solid performer in the market for decades. Designed to meet a broad range of performance and environmental application requirements, the sensor and other wetted materials are 316L stainless steel and feature all welded construction with no moving parts. The Innova-Switch is also easy to install and adjust, giving reliable, low maintenance performance in the most demanding applications.
Flow and level detection is accomplished by using a high-resolution thermal differential technique. The sensor consists of a pair of matched Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD’s). One RTD is self-heated using a constant DC current. The other RTD is unheated and provides an accurate process temperature reference. The thermal differential created between the reference and the heated RTD pair is a function of the density and/or velocity of the gas/fluid in contact with the sensor.
The Innova-Switch features a wide operating temperature range of -100°F to +850°F (-70°C to 458°C) and a range of 0.01 to 5 feet per second (fps) in liquids and 0.1 to 500 fps gases. The level sensitivity is 0.03 inch. The meter features an adjustable response time of 0.5 to 10 seconds (media dependent). Innova-Switch is also CE and CSA approved.
