Detect gas leaks over a distance of up to 200 metres The new SR-
LD 800 and SR-LD 200 remote laser gas detectors from Sewerin enhance safety and effi ciency in a variety of applications, such as inspecting a house’s connections from outside of the property’s boundary or checking gas
pipes located under bridges. Additionally, all operational components at biogas plant can be easily inspected for leaks. Thanks to these devices’ remote detection technology, the tightness of the tank’smembrane connection can be inspected without the hazard and hassle of climbing ladders.
Thanks to the high resolution of the instruments’ measurement laser, these devices achieve exceptionally high sensitivity. The SR-LD 800 and SR-LD 200 are designed to detect methane gas and are both unaffected by cross-interference from other gases due to the use of TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy), a high resolution, non-dispersive spectrometric technique.
The SR-LDs effi ciently detect methane gas even over long distances of up to 200 metres. A laser beam emitted by the detector is refl ected of a surface. If methane is present along the measurement path, it willabsorb the laser beam’s signal. The device calculates methane concentration based on signal attenuation. The devices adjust the zero-point automatically as the distance changes, ensuring reliable detection.
Both remote laser detectors are very compact, lightweight and user-friendly. They can be fully charged in just 2 ½ hours and are always ready for use thanks to the spare rechargeable batteries provided. The automatic adjustment of the measuring lasers is performed conveniently and effi ciently within the carrying case.

New, connected area monitor boosts gas detection and gamma radiation technology
Blackline Safety Corp. has launched a next-generation connected area monitor that advances gas detection and early hazard identifi cation for companies and fi rst responders, providing organisations and communities with unsurpassed protection.
The new EXO 8 portable area monitor—unveiled at the recent National Safety Council (NSC) Safety Congress & Expo in Orlando, Florida—is the only direct-to-cloud area monitor capable of detecting up to eight gases and gamma radiation.
Ideally suited to large industrial organisations in the oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, water and wastewater sectors—alongside fi re-hazmat and homeland security associations—EXO 8 helps teams rapidly respond to incidents involving hazardous substances and ensure the safety of workers, fi rst responders, the public and the environment during these events. Real-time connectivity provides situational awareness that can be shared amongst all responders. Automated analytics provide insights into incidents after the event, enabling teams to understand what happened and take proactive measures to improve safety.
Building on the feature set of Blackline’s award-winning G7 EXO—including drop-and-go setup, direct-to-cloud connectivity, up to 100-day battery life, and comprehensive analytics—the new EXO 8 also boasts several other exciting features, such as a gas expansion module, which allows users to add up to four additional sensors for a total of eight gases. Blackline also added an integrated gamma radiation sensor, which has a range three times the distance of competitors and operates continuously without cycling on or off. An enhanced, higher resolution, full-colour dual display—with a live readings screen for real-time gas and gamma levels and a dashboard screen to quickly see alarms and device status has also been added. The EXO 8 also has enhanced ruggedness and reliability in even the harshest environmental conditions.
Chris Johnson, Hazmat Technician for the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services in New York State, sees the value EXO 8 with gamma detection brings to hazmat response.
“Blackline Safety’s G7 EXO was already my preferred area monitor in the fi eld. The ability to quickly swap out gas sensors to adapt to whatever threat we’re facing during response is invaluable. The data you get from the device—in real-time, from anywhere in the world, and easily understandable—has been critical to successful incident response,” Johnson said.
“EXO 8 with gamma detection will help us in even more scenarios, including behind-the-scenes monitoring. Gamma allows us to use the device for public safety as part of event protection. It will also keep our people more protected because we can detect more gases,” Johnson continued.
Event protection is crucial to public safety, as mass gatherings are vulnerable to attacks and are considered soft targets because they can infl ict high numbers of casualties.
Though there has never been a Radiological Dispersal Device (RDD, aka dirty bomb) detonated in a public setting, in 2002, U.S. offi cials stated they detained an American citizen who intended to detonate a dirty bomb. Since then, several governments in Europe have stopped similar plots by terrorist groups. According to the Global Terrorism Database, 68% of attacks on concerts and festivals involve explosives, including the Bataclan bombing in 2015 in France, the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017 in the UK, and the threats of mass casualties that cancelled Taylor Swift’s Eras tour shows this year in Vienna.
“Four years ago, we introduced the G7 EXO with Blackline’s industry-leading real-time connectivity, which quickly became the gold standard for area monitoring. With EXO 8, we’ve signifi cantly expanded our customers’ ability to protect people and communities across a wider range of situations,” said Cody Slater, Blackline Safety CEO and Chair. “We’re responding to a direct need in the market by providing organisations with more robust technology that helps them address a broader spectrum of risks, faster.”
EXO 8 comes with a full warranty and fl exible purchase options, including the ability to own or lease to maximise CAPEX or OPEX budgets. The fi rst product shipments are scheduled for November 2024.
