New and improved single- gas detector unveiled
Blackline Safety Corp. has announced a signifi cant upgrade to its G6 single-gas detector, adding new features and service plans to the life- saving wearable device.
G6 now features the same real-time connectivity as the company’s G7 product line. Additional new features include an emergency SOS that
workers can trigger in critical situations to get help, and an expanded suite of data and reporting analytics. The device also supports indoor location technology. The company has introduced two new service plans—Protect and Protect Plus, starting at $10 per month—which bundle new features to fi t within any safety program.
G6 is a connected single-gas detector that uses instant cloud connectivity and location technology to help companies better protect their workers in industrial environments where exposure to toxic gases and hazards are common risks.
Supporting H2 S, CO, O2 or SO2 gas detection, G6 alerts the
person when they have come into contact with gas—using attention-getting lights, sounds and vibrations—and sends immediate notifi cations to emergency contacts. In a situation where gas has rendered a worker unconscious, these notifi cations coupled with the new SOS functionality can be life-saving both for the down worker and for others in the area.
G6 is powered by the company’s Blackline Live and Blackline Analytics platforms. Usage and compliance analytics enable companies to gain insights into when and where devices are being used and alerts occur, allowing them to address issues before they become dangerous and optimise their safety programs.
“We are further upping the standard for single-gas that we set last year. G6’s SOS feature makes sure workers can get help immediately when and where they need it, not just when they have been exposed to high gas. Added to that, real-time data around-the-clock, not just during an incident, allows companies to harness the information to improve worker safety and operational effi ciencies,” said Cody Slater, Blackline’s CEO and Chair.
A major energy company operating in the Permian Basin in Texas recently added G6 to its fl eet of connected safety devices from Blackline Safety.
“G6 fi lled a gap in our safety program, as we needed an easy-to-use and maintain device more suited to temporary or short-time visitors on site. This freed up our Blackline G7 lone worker and multi-gas detectors for personnel in more hazard-prone situations,” said a company representative. “With Blackline Safety, we get one partner and one platform to manage all our safety needs.”
G6 has a lifespan of four years and includes a rechargeable battery with up to one year battery life from a single charge. Along with the new features, the company is introducing multi-unit charging stations—available in 5 or 25-unit confi gurations—which provide convenient charging options for customers’ G6 fl eets. Existing G6 units in the fi eld will be upgraded with new features through over-the-air fi rmware updates.
G6 was recently named the 2023 IoT New Product of the Year by Occupational Health and Safety and received a Preventica Toulouse award for innovation in workplace safety. It has also landed a prestigious Red Dot award for innovative design and an Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) industrial hygiene outstanding product development award.

Seven new models of optical gas imaging cameras to help oil, gas, manufacturing, steel production, and utility industry professionals become even more eff ective in the fi eld
Teledyne FLIR recently debuted the new G-Series, a family of high-tech, cooled- core optical gas imaging (OGI) cameras that can help leak detection and repair (LDAR) professionals seamlessly locate and document harmful gas emissions. The G-Series is designed to empower everyday users in the oil and gas, manufacturing, steel, and utility industries to spend more time prioritising leak repairs, and less time documenting them while gaining better insight into the severity of the emission.
The G-Series features seven camera models. All models are available with wireless connectivity to allow operators to automatically upload and store saved images and videos to FLIR Ignite cloud software while in the fi eld. G-Series cameras provide easy compatibility with third-party analysis software, enabling operators to wirelessly share captured content with colleagues across the world for review, providing further analysis and processing. Quick-swap interchangeable lenses give users the fl exibility to inspect from multiple distances.
Teledyne FLIR engineered the FLIR G620, Gx320, and Gx620 models to detect and accurately quantify hydrocarbon, fugitive gas, and other volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions in the oil and gas industry. With quantifi cation now integrated inside the camera, there is no need to carry a second companion device while inspecting. Teledyne FLIR also added ATEX ratings, OOOOa sensitivity compliance, and an ergonomic rotatable touchscreen to ensure that professionals can get the job done safer and more effi ciently.
The G306 and G343 models give utility inspectors superior image quality and advanced features to detect sulphur hexafl uoride and carbon dioxide, respectively, to help maintain electrical equipment. The G346 and G304 provide an effective method to detect carbon monoxide or refrigerant leaks and potential issues that will improve safety and productivity within the plant environment.
“For the fi rst time, the Teledyne FLIR G-Series provides unmatched user ergonomics with quantifi cation in camera for the hydrocarbon models, adding seamless emissions measurement into the everyday leak detection and repair process,” said Craig O’Neill, Global OGI Business Development Director, Teledyne FLIR. “These new models represent a breakthrough in OGI with advanced features, updated wireless communication protocols, and a rotatable touchscreen LCD to maximise user effi ciency in the fi eld.” The new G-Series will be available for shipment within the quarter.

Modular gas sensor systems cater to some of the industry’s most complex gas analysis challenges
Reliable and precise gas measurement systems for determining the concentration of toxic or combustible gases and vapours in potentially explosive environments
LogiDataTech supplies innovative gas measurement systems for directly determining gas concentration in a gas mixture. The explosion-proof MF420-Ex-2.1 range measures the concentration of toxic or combustible gases and vapours in an explosive air mixture at an ambient temperature range of 0-50°C. They operate by utilising either a pellistor or a specifi c electrochemical sensor. Calibration is a simple procedure and is carried out on-site using an alphanumeric display with the use of buttons, so the device does not need to be opened. The aluminium housing is suitable for wall mounting. The measured values are outputted via a linear current output (4-20mA) and the evaluation and further processing of the measured values are transmitted to a device connected downstream by the user. The instruments comply with the current European ATEX standard and are approved for operation in zones 1 and 2.
