Distillation analyser provides perfection from the fi rst drop
Atmospheric distillation is one of the most important testing methods in the process of refi ning crude oil into fuels or other petroleum products. Determining the boiling range of each distillation cut has major fi nancial implications since it allows for an increase in output from the distillation tower, and thus in the volume of fi nal products.
Anton Paar’s Diana 300 distillation analyzer - an entry-level alternative to the high-range Diana 700 that nonetheless boasts the same fuel distillation range and the same safety levels - ensures perfection from the very fi rst drop. The Diana series delivers the accuracy you need to analyze your products and maximize yield. The testing procedure and results comply with ASTM D86, ASTM D850, ASTM D1078, ISO 3405, IP 123, IP 195, JIS K 2254, and GOST 2177.
Both Diana 300 and Diana 700 cover an array of fuel samples (100 % fossil and blended fuels, like bio-fuels). Diana 700 maximizes throughput thanks to accelerated liquid-free Peltier cooling for uninterrupted measurements. They also put a premium on safety with an in-built fi re sensor and an internal fi re extinguisher that can be initiated automatically or with a button. Diana 700 and Diana 300 help refi neries get the most out of their crude oil. They can be used at tank terminals, refi neries, transportation companies and independent labs; indeed, any company that handles fuels.

Paltro, the automation and A.I. division of Ducom, is excited to introduce our fully automated BOCLE 2.0 ball on cylinder lubricity tester for Aviation Turbine Fuels. BOCLE utilizes a ball on cylinder contact geometry with a steel ball loaded against a steel ring dipped in a bath containing the fuel under test. A typical test of 45 mins consist of a pre-treatment of 15 mins and actual test of 30 mins. On completion of test, the ball wear scar is measured under a microscope. The mean wear scar is an indication of the fuel lubricity with lower values associated with superior lubricity. The test parameters and test sequence is governed by ASTM D5001 standard involving a prescribed protocol.
BOCLE 2.0 automates these activities to reduce user effort and intervention thereby allowing a lab to assess fuel lubricity effortlessly for rapid decision making. Key features of BOCLE 2.0 include
• A unique hybrid automated lading, where the calibrated weight is applied automatically on completion of the pre-treatment step. A soft, motorized loading eliminates impact and jerk, completely eliminating user intervention and variability.
• A conditioned air unit with programmed logic controls the valves and the fl ow rates with automatic switch over from pre-treatment to test phase.
• Inbuilt sensors and data acquisition continuously monitor and log the test conditions for each test with a unique ID. This can be retrieved ensuring complete traceability.
• Slide-n-fi t spacers allow the lower ring to be laterally offset after a test allowing 10 tests to be conducted per ring. This allows a lab to maximize utilization of consumables.
• An intuitive and simple user interface allows user to execute the complete test sequence with a single click. Additional water level and pressure sensors alert user to routine maintenance activities. • A single source supplier for instrument, test rings, balls and accessories ensures better quality control Fully automated BOCLE 2. 0, ensures unattended operation for a 45 min test freeing up time for other activities thereby enhancing lab productivity.
Stay tuned for more news on BOCLE 2.0 automation
