New Analytical Technique for On-Line Analysis
Metrohm Applikon expands its on-line sensing technologies to include Thermometric Titration. This proven robust analytical technique is ideal for difficult complex matrices where high
concentrations of salts, acids and other etching compounds are commonly found. Measurement times are approximately 3 times faster than their potentiometric counterparts with little to no maintenance required even when used in aggressive solvents. Typical applications include acid and base numbers in various petroleum products, chloride and calcium in drilling fluids, surfactants, moisture, sodium, carbonate, iodine value and glycerol. Thermometric titration further expands the versatility of the Process Analyser 2045TI, allowing the analysis of an unlimited range of different compounds.
For hazardous environments the new ADI 2045TI Ex proof’s smart design avoids the need for purging large analyser shelters, reducing utility costs and eliminating the need for «Hot work permits» when conducting routine maintenance on the analyser. The ATEX certified Process Analyser can be located at the production line in any hazardous environment saving costs on expensive infrastructures.

New NIR Process Analysers
Metrohm Applikon NIRSystems Process Analytics Analysers are used throughout the petrochemical process stream to ensure optimum performance for widely varying samples. The analysers allow for cost-effective analysis of sample types ranging from clear liquids to suspensions and solids. Configure the analyser with a reflectance probe, an immersion probe, a transmission probe pair or a transmission flow cell for an optimised interface to your particular sample type. NIR has been used successfully to monitor the input and output streams of Crude Oil Distillation units, Naphtha Crackers, Reformers, and other downstream processes such as para-xylene. The NIR analysers have also been used to measure low levels of conjugated diolefins (measured as Maleic Anhydride Value, or MAV) in Hydrotreated Fluid Catalytic Cracking Gasoline’s.
The main features of the Metrohm Applikon NIRSystems are: Real-time analysis and data availability in seconds; MicroBundle fibre optic interface optimised for process streams with suspensions and solids; Single fibre optic interface optimised for clear liquids; One sample channel or multiplexing of up to either four or nine channels; NEMA 4X/IP65 rated; Optional upgrade to hazardous area classification (ATEX; Class 1, Division 1; Class 1, Division 2; etc.); Optional feedback communication like 4-20mA, MODBUS, PROFIBUS or OPC.

Petrochemical and chemical plants use large quantities of water in their various processes. Whether the water is used in boilers, for cooling or is waste or run-off storm water the quality of the water needs to continuously monitored either for process control or for ensuring discharges meet their legal requirements. One easy way to continuously monitor that the water is within acceptable limits for use or discharge is to measure the total organic carbon levels.
Metrohm Applikon is pleased to announce the introduction of the ADI 7010 TOC Analyser. The analyser uses the EPA approved UV persulfate oxidation method with NDIR detection and is easy to install and maintain. The analyser can measure liquid samples ranging from 0- 5 mg/L up to 0- 10,000 mg/L and conforms to EPA, DIN, CE, ASTM and NAMUR standards. The analyser is designed with two separate enclosures, one for liquids and the other for electrical and detector functions. All controls are through a touch screen interface and auto-clean, auto-calibration and auto-validation functions can be programmed. There is a continuous display of TOC concentration and reagent levels. Analogue outputs for result transmittal and relays for alarms and other programmable indicators are included for full integration into the plant’s own operating system.
