18 Flow Level Pressure The Next Step in Pumping Station Control
Pulsar’s Process Measurement (UK) market-leading non-contact ultrasonic level measurement and control systems lie at the heart of their sophisticated pump station controllers; reducing labour and saving money within a modern pumping station control régime. Pulsar’s Zenith introduced peak energy tariff avoidance to reduce energy costs, while Quantum and Quantum 2 added user-focussed features including automatic pump reset, saving hours of staff time, ‘time to spill’ and ‘burst and block’ alarms.
Now, with the introduction of Quantum 3 and integration with Pulsar’s ground-breaking Flow Pulse, pump station control is taking another leap forward.
Quantum 3 uses the measurements from the versatile and innovative Flow Pulse to provide warnings based on measured flow rather than a calculated flow rate derived from changes in level.
Added to that, Quantum 3 can control a further three Flow Pulse units (four in total), so you can monitor flow rates from individual or multiple pumps and at critical points.
Flow Pulse is Pulsar’s unique, non-invasive flow monitor. Simply attached by a clamp to the outside of pipes of virtually any construction and up to 1m diameter, Flow Pulse provides a reliable, repeatable flow measurement.

L&J Engineering (USA), an industry specialist in the level gauging market, recently introduced the new MCG 1097 Wireless Proximity Switch. In this new age of always wanting more information, L&J Engineering now offers a way to monitor when tank vents are relieving. Our MCG 1097 Wireless Proximity Switch can send a signal to notify the operator when a pressure device is relieving. This valuable information can be monitored and tracked. The instant reliable data will prove to be an asset that avoids the hassle of guess work and a saving of both time and money.
The MCG 1097 needs no wires at all. It contains a small lithium battery which will power the unit for at least one year. Using L&J proprietary algorithms, it instantaneously sends back any alarm conditions as well as continually checking battery conditions. If the battery should get low or any other abnormal condition should occur, it will immediately notify the host MCG 7030 Touch Panel Alarm Monitor.

27492pr@reply-direct.com Multi-Gas Flow Totaliser Software
Sierra Instruments (USA), a specialist global mass flow meter manufacturer, has released new free flow totaliser software module for their QuadraTherm 640i/780i mass flow meter. Through their QuadraTherm Software Interface Program (SIP), end users now have an efficient management tool to totalise and monetise all gases with one instrument. The flow totaliser software module leverages QuadraTherm’s high accuracy (+/- 0.5% of full scale) to give end users the most accurate totalisation of multiple gases from an industrial flow meter.
“Here at Sierra we are continually developing and adding value-added tools and features to our products to help our customers. The QuadraTherm SIP software flow totaliser feature all started with a customer requirement that we believe will be useful to all our flow customers,” said Scott Rouse, Vice President, Product Line Management.
Key Software Benefits include: View the totalised value of multiple gases; Totalise up to four gases with one device and software package; Set units per pulse and pulse width; Turn totalisers on/off; Reset totaliser.
There are four totalisers visible on the user interface screen of the SIP software. The user selects one to be active. Each totaliser is independent of the others, allowing users to totalise one gas, then switch and totalise another gas. End users can switch back to their previous gas to begin totalising flow with the previous flow total maintained or reset if necessary.

Area Flowmeter Approved for North America Hazardous Areas
Krohne (Germany) has received North American approval for use of the H250 M40 variable area flowmeter in hazardous areas. Since its introduction in 2011, the H250 M40 has achieved more than 30 approvals worldwide for hazardous gas and dust areas, including usFMc for the United States and Canada, ATEX, IECEx, NEPSI, INMETRO, KGS, GOST-R and PESO/CCOE.
The H250 M40 combines the major explosion protection types in one device. It can be used in any suitable application that requires intrinsically safe (IS) or non-incendive (NI) wiring strategies, as well as for dust-ignition or explosion proof installations. The worldwide approvals make the H250 M40 flowmeter the best choice for large international companies that have a stringent explosion protection strategy for all plants but also require local approvals. OEMs can
also now fulfill different customers’ requirements with a single device. In addition, the H250 M40 is the first variable area flowmeter with stainless steel housing and an explosion proof (Ex-d/XP) enclosure, making it ideal for the oil and gas industry
All available H250 M40 flowmeter indicator options can be supplied with specific approvals, onsite, and without interrupting the process. These purely mechanical flow indicators can easily be upgraded with 1 or 2 limit switches (NAMUR, transistor, or reed), a 4...20mA signal output with HART, a graphical LCD with totalizer and pulse output, as well as a digital, bus- powered communication interface using FOUNDATION Fieldbus or the PROFIBUS (Process Field Bus) PA standard.
