Multi-Analyser Order from BP

H2scan Corporation (USA) announce that the BP Cherry Point refinery in Washington State selected multiple HY-OptimatM Hydrogen Process Analysers integrated with the NeSSI™ platform system for their analyser upgrades. H2scan’s analyser, based on Palladium-Nickel alloys and proprietary molecular coatings, have been operating successfully at the BP facility in the first stage recycle compressor in the hydrocracker unit and have shown good performance in a high

percentage, harsh contaminant (H2S) and multi- component process gas mixtures in comparison with traditional process analysers.

Integrated with state-of-the art modular

Intraflow NeSSITM sample substrates provided to H2scan by Parker Hannifin, H2scan analysers will provide real-time measurement without the need of valve switching, frequent calibrations and is designed to save considerable retail space in BP’s analyser shelters. H2scan’s success with BP provides a good example of widespread acceptance of H2scan’s miniaturised and advanced analyser technologies in oil refineries.

BP’s Analyser Engineer, Ryan Holgate stated,

“H2scan participated in a competitive bidding process with gas chromatographs over the past year and was selected based on a series of factors including performance, cost and maintainability.” The sample system design was finalised between H2scan, BP contractor CH2M Hill, Parker Hannifin and Gasalarm Systems, a Texas-based integrator contracted by H2scan.

“H2scan’s miniaturised process analysers are

an excellent fit for our modular Intraflow NeSSITM platforms. We expect to extend our collaboration to several analyser projects in the future,” stated Steve Doe, Parker Hannifin’s Analytical Market Manager.

H2scan’s President and CEO, Dennis Reid

said, “Being awarded this contract from BP and being able to utilise the experience and capability of companies like Parker Hannifin and CH2M Hill is extremely rewarding. The process has been seamless and we are on schedule to deliver the full multi-analyser and control system on-time. We are thrilled to be working with BP and are confident the partnership with our two companies will continue to expand the reach of our analysers.”

Groveley Detection Installation on Shell Philippines on Malampaya Gas Platform

Aspirator specialists at Groveley Detection (UK) have returned from the Philippines after commissioning a single channel unit and autodrain system on the Malampaya Gas Platform, South China Sea.

Gas produced by the platform is cooled by a circulating water system. The aspirator will monitor the nitrogen blanket within the cooling water storage vessel.

Groveley managing director Robert Bennet said: “Our aspirators are installed across the globe and we had a 30% increase on orders last year. I believe this is because the oil and gas market recognises the key strengths of Groveley GD-A aspirators, they are often an integral part of site safety."

Da Vinci Europe Group (Netherlands) welcomes a new member: TransGlobal Distributors.

TransGlobal Distributors is the exclusive European Distribution Company of the ASAP Analytical Vapor Phase Infrared (IR) Detector for the Agilent Gas Chromatograph (GC). The ASAP (IR) is known as the Molecular Detective®

because it

describes the unique capabilities of the ASAP IRD. The IRD takes on the role of a Molecular Detective identifying a component or isomer. This Universal Detector confirms the molecular structure of components.

Another major product line of TransGlobal Distributors is its

UcalibrateIT.com brand, which furnishes Certified and Custom Made Calibration Standards for the Global Petrochemical Industry. The Calibration Standards are produced by leading US manufacturers. UcalibrateIT.com provides calibration standards for the petroleum, lubricants and polymer industries. The instrument calibration standards are produced “in-house” and are accompanied

with a Certificate of Analysis indicating traceability to NIST, for ASTM methods and other equivalent International Standards.

Willem van Raalte, CEO of the Da Vinci Europe Group proudly announces the new partnership:

“The aim of Da Vinci Europe is to help companies in the analytical and biotechnical segments by offering high-performance analytical solutions. Adding this comprehensive IR detector and high quality calibration standards will boost their laboratory efficiency. Also the product line of UcalibrateIT.com perfectly completes our solutions for the petroleum and petrochemical markets such as the Liquefied Gas Injector.”

Deborah Burton, CEO of TransGlobal Distributors: "This agreement with Da Vinci Europe represents a significant milestone for TransGlobal Distributors and our two key product lines. The Molecular Detective ASAP (IR) will be strengthened by Da Vinci Europe's strong reputation for innovation in the Analytical market, strengthening our efforts to provide FTIR technology to the growing European Forensic, Petrochemical, Food & Flavor, Environmental, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology markets. In terms of our UcalibrateIT.com product range the partnership with Da Vinci Europe allows us to expand our product range of Certified and Custom made Calibration Standards for the Global Petrochemical industry”

$7.5 Million Abu Dhabi Oil Fields Pump Order

Flowserve (USA) have received an order worth approximately $7.5 million for Flowserve MP1 multiphase pumps from Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) for the Bida Al Qemzan field development project. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2010.

“This order continues our long history of

providing solutions to the oil and gas industry in the United Arab Emirates,” said Tom Ferguson, president, Flow Solutions Group. “Given the challenging specifications for this project, we are very proud that ADCO chose Flowserve MP1 multiphase pumps. We are confident that the MP1’s ability to effectively pump mixtures of oil and natural gas will help ADCO maximise production at the Bida Al Qemzan field.”

ADCO selected Flowserve pumps due to their

performance, reliability and ability to meet the high-pressure and corrosion-resistance require- ments. The pump packages, which include the suction and discharge piping and drivers, are designed for 190 barg (2,750 psig) maximum allowable working pressure. The pumps are made of super-duplex stainless steel for corrosion resistance due to chloride content in the water of 47,800 parts per million.

Alicat Scientific Acquired by Halma

Alicat Scientific (USA) , a manufacturer of mass flow and pressure technology, has been acquired by Halma p.l.c., the leading safety, health and sensor technology group. Alicat will join Halma’s global group of fluid technology businesses.

Founded in 1991, Alicat has pioneered the use of differential pressure measurement in its products, speeding response times by as much as 1000 times over that of competing temperature-based measurement

technology. The company’s mass flow devices are used in medical and scientific instrumentation, as well as specialty industrial applications for high-precision measurement of gas and liquid flows. Its product range includes mass and liquid flow meters and controllers; pressure controllers; digital pressure and vacuum gauges; portable flow meters; calibration standards; and software and accessories.

Halma is a holding company of 36 worldwide subsidiaries that develop and manufacture products to improve quality of life for people worldwide. The company’s business groups focus on industrial safety, health and

analysis and infrastructure sensors. Alicat joins the fluid technology sector of the health and analysis business group. These established brands make critical components such as pumps, probes, valves, connectors and tubing used by scientific, environmental and medical diagnostic instrument manufacturers for demanding fluid handling applications.

Halma typically acquires companies in familiar markets or closely allied sectors. Alicat shares a number of key customers and market niches with new sister companies Bio-Chem Fluidics, Diba Industries and Perma

Pure. The acquisition of Alicat and its complementary technologies will create opportunities for technical and marketing collaborations as Halma continues to grow this sector. “Alicat has been competing for market space against much larger organisations with much deeper pockets,” explains Alicat president David Lashbrook. “Joining Halma provides tangible resources to allow us to gain

more ground in the marketplace. Halma’s intellectual resources in terms of organisational experience and corporate governance will help Alicat establish a more streamlined corporate structure. Our commitment to strong customer service has proven to be a good strategy for consistent market exposure.
