Fluid Dispensing Components Utilise State of the Art Computational Fluid Dynamics Findings
Traditional dispensing components are based on medical syringes and modified for industrial use. In developing the Optimum™ system, Nordson EFD used state of the art Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) evaluations to engineer a complete comprehensive family of disposable components that bring fluid dispensing and packaging processes to a higher level of reliability to meet the demands of today’s cutting edge manufacturing processes.
Syringe Barrels provide even, laminar flow of watery low-viscosity fluids to thick viscous materials during filling and dispensing processes. The internal CFD- enhanced geometry eliminates any opportunity for ‘dead spots’ that could trap air bubbles during filling or dispensing. Available in 3, 5, 10, 30 and 55cc capacities in clear, UV-blocking and light-blocking configurations.
Cartridges and Retainers improve yields and reduce costs in fluid packaging and dispensing processes that require a larger reservoir. A robust cartridge design eliminates the risk of splitting, while see-through cartridge retainers make it easy to monitor fluid levels. Available in 2.5, 6, 12, 20 and 32 ounce capacities.
Pistons its revolutionary design incorporates unique channels that prevent air entrapment during the filling process. Pistons are engineered to match perfectly with syringe barrels, and feature precision dual wiper edges that wipe syringe and cartridge walls clean as fluid is dispensed, eliminating waste and residue. End Caps and Tip Caps incorporate a unique pushbutton for error-free attachment and an airtight seal.
Tip caps are vented to ensure that no air is pushed into the fluid during the installation process. EFD’s OptimumTM system sets the standard in consumable fluid dispensing and packaging components and provides significant advantages over what is currently available in the marketplace.
Circle no. 444 Melting Point Apparatus Proves the Automatic Choice
Stuart’s SMP40 melting point apparatus speeds up purity and identification testing by offering automatic, walk-away operation. The unit is available with optional full installation qualification and operation qualification (IQ/OQ) documentation, for regulated laboratories needing to comply with cGMP audit requirements.
The SMP40 uses digital video imaging technology to detect and capture accurately the melting point of up to three samples simultaneously. The melt process can be viewed in real time or retrospectively on the full colour 5.7” VGA screen. Maximum footprint flexibility is ensured by the split design so, for example, the sample side of the apparatus can be placed at the back of the bench or even in a fume cupboard, while the control side
detects whether it is being used upright or on its side and adjusts the screen orientation accordingly.
Product Brochure GFL Incubators
Three different product ranges cover the most versatile applications in laboratories: Shaking Incubators (3), Mini Incubators (2) and a Hybridisation Incubator. Their stable and durable mechanism ensures an especially silent operation and reliability in continuous mode.
Our Incubators bear the CE sign, are maintenance-free and can be equipped with numerous accessories.

Rob Skehens, Marketing Director, Bibby Scientific, said: ‘The SMP40’s intuitive touchscreen interface and innovative split design concept provide excellent ease of use. This Stuart microsite is a valuable resource for anyone interested in thermal measurement. As market leader in melting point technology, Stuart is committed to developing products that not only provide highly accurate results, but also increase work efficiency. Chemical and manufacturing laboratories engaged in applications such as high throughput purity testing of solid compounds will particularly benefit from using the SMP40. As melting points are determined automatically, with the digital camera identifying the smallest of changes within the sample, purity checks are less labour-intensive and large numbers of tests can be performed in a much shorter time.’
Around 200 results in the form of .avi video files of the melt process can be stored by the SMP40 for viewing on the unit’s screen, while USB connectivity enables transfer to a flash drive or PC via Microsoft® of results.
Circle no. 445 Upgrades to Laboratory Information Management System
AgileBio recently announced the release of LabCollector v4.66. LabCollector LIMS is a fully integrated laboratory information management system (LIMS) ideally suited to manage a variety of day-to-day useful lab information like detailed sample storage, experimental results, quality records and SOPs. Responding to LabCollector user’s demand and to provide the most advanced laboratory management system for the scientists, AgileBio brings a complete range of new functionalities to its laboratory management system: LabCollector 4.66. The upgrade includes sensible improvements and it offers new additional capabilities: structure display for chemicals structures inventory and a sub-structure search engine; improvement of the ordering tools (with new direct order submit to Sigma and VWR); a memorise search results button to quickly edit worklists and to print labels batches; a scheduler to manage animal’s location availability; definition of label sizes - upport for Brady and Zebra printers, using EPL; group policies - manage storage access and storage locations view; and new bioinformatics tools for sequences analysis.
LabCollector is collaborative Intranet-based software that allows scientists to improve information traceability in their lab and enhance their storage organization. Built around independent modules that can interact with each other, LabCollector will manage samples, plasmids, reagents, equipments, documents, chemical structures and animals.
