Plant Growth Chamber Series
New Air Jet Sieving Machine
The new air jet sieve AS 200 jet from Retsch is particularly suitable for low density materials with particle sizes in the lower micron range. It is used with 200mm and 203mm (8’’) sieves of 10 microns mesh size or more. An industrial vacuum cleaner generates a jet of air, which disperses the particles on the sieve through a slotted nozzle. The material that passes the sieve is transported to the vacuum cleaner or to a cyclone for recovery. The procedure is very gentle on the material; the average sieving time only takes 2-3 minutes.
A special feature of the AS 200 jet is the Open Mesh Function, which helps to greatly reduce the number of near-mesh particles. This provides optimum separation efficiency and also excellent reproducibility. Operation of the sieving machine is very simple and user-friendly. The Quick Start Mode allows starting the sieving process without previous programming.
Benefits include gentle sieving with short sieving times; reproducible results due to Open Mesh Function; high flexibility through adjustable nozzle speed; automatic vacuum regulation (option); suitable for 200/203 mm (8 ‘’) test sieves; memory for up to 9 SOPs, additional Quick Start mode; and silent operation due to integrated silencer.
Caron Products announces the introduction of Plant Growth Chambers as the newest addition to its rapidly growing product portfolio. The new application-based series includes: Plant Growth Chambers, Arabidopsis/Algae Chambers, Plant Tissue Culture Chambers and Seed Germination Chambers, available in 25 cu. ft. (708 liters) and 33 cu. ft. (934 liters) volumes.
Caron’s new plant growth series represents a complete product offering for a wide variety of plant life research work – from seedlings to fully developed plants and crops. Although many methods exist for these studies, each new Caron plant growth chamber targets a specific application with the proper temperature range, amount of lighting and space for growth.
Plant Growth Chambers (Model 6320 and 6340), Arabidopsis/Algae Chambers (Model 6321 and 6341) and Plant Tissue Culture Chambers (Model 6322 and 6342) come standard with Caron’s earth-friendly gLux™ high efficiency fluorescent lamps. Lamp banks are interchangeable, modular, expandable and waterproof. They are precisely spaced for uniformed, balanced light across all shelf locations.
Seed Germination Chambers (Model 6323 and 6343) utilise low profile, side mounted LED lights to effectively cultivate plantlets and seedlings. All lights have a digital day/night cycle timer with separate day/night temperature setpoints.
Although the plant growth series is a new product offering, Caron is accustomed to the plant biology market. Bob Dotterer, Applications Engineer, has customised many standard Caron units for plant growth studies.
“For years we have worked closely with plant researchers delivering equipment tailored to optimally grow their plants,” Dotterer said. “We’ve effectively utilised feedback and requests from plant biologists to engineer application specific products that go beyond typical equipment offered by others. Our product incorporates unmatched environmental stability, energy efficiency, customer convenience and lighting enhancement options.”
Additionally, Caron is rolling out specialised chlorophyll- matching lamp alternatives that will maximise plant growth. Chlorophyll most strongly absorbs light in the blue and red regions. Precisely matching this perfect light wavelength allows plants to grow at the fastest, healthiest rate. The blue (LGHT308) and red (LGHT309) lights are sold as optional light packages and consist of four lamps each.
Caron’s blue lamps produce high quantities of light in the 420 nm range and red lamps produce high quantities of light in the 660 nm range.

ASL has introduced the F650 precision thermometry bridge, a significant enhancement to its best selling F600 and F700 ranges. Based on proven and exceptionally stable AC bridge technology, the F650 provides high accuracy temperature measurement and calibration, accurate to +/- 1ppm over the full range (typically +/- 0.25mK, at 0.01ºC).
Thanks to the elimination of thermal EMF errors, automatic cancellation of probe and cable reactance effects, the F650 thermometry bridge is ideally suited to national and accredited laboratories, in-house calibration departments, critical process companies and research organisations requiring high accuracy measurement of a ratio, resistance or temperature.
With a temperature range of -200ºC to +962ºC the F650 excels in the most demanding temperature measurement industries and helps meet ITS90, CVD and EN 60751 standards. The thermometry bridge operates at the lower frequency of 25Hz (50Hz supply) and provides resolution of 0.01mK with inherently low noise.
The F650 has 25 and 100 internal standard resistors and can also be used with external standard resistors. It has a ratio range of 0 to 4.9999999, or 0 to 500 ohms resistance, with measurement results presented on a large scale, multifunction VFD screen. The mean, max, min, std dev and n sample count can also be displayed with a separate graphical display.
“The F650 is a significant enhancement to ASL’s portfolio of precision thermometry bridges,” commented Peter Andrews, Technical Manager, ASL. “All our measurement equipment is based on AC bridge technology which remains the only option for industries requiring the highest accuracy precision temperature measurement and calibration.”
To ensure long term reliability the F650 uses surface mount technology with no mechanical relays.

Quantitative Analysis of RNA Promega Corporation announced that it has launched GoTaq®
The system incorporates BRYT Green®
1-Step RT-qPCR
System for quantitative analysis of RNA. The reagent system gives a brighter signal for earlier quantification of low and high copy RNA targets, using a one-step reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) protocol in a single tube format.
Fluorescent Dye, a novel dye that exhibits
enhanced fluorescence when bound to dsDNA, and optimised buffer formulations to improve data accuracy and sensitivity of low expressing targets or targets present at low amounts. GoTaq 1-Step RT-qPCR System is compatible with all real-time PCR instruments in both fast and standard cycling conditions.
The optimised formulations of the GoTaq 1-Step RT-qPCR System components have been engineered to enable simple reaction setup and provide consistently efficient, sensitive, broad range and robust performance in all standard or fast instrument platforms.
The components and protocol allow cDNA synthesis using the GoScript™ Reverse Transcription System and quantification using the GoTaq®
qPCR Master Mix. GoTaq 1-Step RT-qPCR System can be used with any real-time instrument capable of detecting SYBR®
I or FAM™ dye and contains a low level of CXR Reference Dye. A separate tube of CXR Reference Dye is included for use with instruments that require a higher level of reference dye.

Ordering Ready-For-Use Oligos Made Easy
Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) now offers its customers the ability to order RxnReady oligonucleotides. Users can specify the premixing of 2 – 6 standard desalted DNA oligos, in a single tube, according to the individual specifications provided. An additional level of flexibility is provided by the ability to incorporate a range of modifications, including 5’ amino, 5’ biotin, 5’ or internal deoxyInosine, 5’ or internal deoxyUridine, and 5’ phosphorylation. Final yields range from 5 to 50 nm and can be shipped lyophilised or hydrated (in RNase-free water or IDTE 8.0 nuclease-free buffer).
Researchers often mix oligos to create multiple primers as part of a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), for the generation of insertions and/or deletions, or for site-directed mutagenesis applications. By ordering RxnReady oligos, users can save valuable lab time, freeing themselves up for demanding protocols. In addition, IDT’s ISO 9001:2008 certification ensures consistent quality throughout the synthesis process; each oligo manufactured undergoes strict QC by mass spectrometry. As a result, users can be confident in the purity of their mixed oligos and thus, the integrity of downstream data.
IDT’s RxnReady oligos are easily ordered online through IDT’s custom DNA ordering system. Circle no. 387
