Eksigent AnnouncesMajor Expansion for HPLCManufacturing and Service
Eksigent Technologies announce that it will increase manufacturing capacity by 40 percent to meet strong demand for its HPLC products.
“The need for this increase in product build capability is being driven by higher than expected customer demand for both our cHiPLC®
-
nanoflex for proteomics, introduced in February of this year, and our ExpressHT™-Ultra HPLC System for ADME-Tox and DMPK studies, introduced last fall,” stated David Neyer, vice president and co- founder of Eksigent. “We are also actively recruiting for field service personnel to ensure that customer installations are maintained at our traditionally short lead times.”
The new cHiPLC-nanoflex System is a docking station for up to three microfluidic chips that contain nanoLC or trap columns. The system delivers improved reproducibility and ease of use to proteomics research. The ExpressHT-Ultra HPLC system is the latest offering in Eksigent’s line of products for small molecule analysis. It provides short cycle times and high throughput for LC/MS studies of pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism.

New High Performance Platform and Chromatography Data System
PerkinElmer the new FlexarTM
liquid
chromatography (LC) platform, which will be controlled by the new Chromera® Chromatography Data System (CDS). Flexar incorporates a new ergonomic industrial design and delivers a wide range of pressure options intended
to address the increasingly demanding application needs of high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) laboratories. The Company’s new multi-tiered platform offers solutions from semi-prep to ultra high pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC).
Chromera® has been built from the ground up, offering an easy
approach to LC instrument control and chromatographic data processing. The instrument platform and software build upon PerkinElmer’s commitment to superior reliability in LC product design and control, providing a platform that covers a wider performance and pressure range.
“These new systems mark our commitment to delivering innovation and greater productivity to this market,” said Richard Begley, Ph.D., president, Analytical Sciences, PerkinElmer. “We are also focused on addressing the important concerns of laboratory professionals, which include both materials costs and waste-disposal.”

Determination ofMelamine in Food by Ion Chromatography
Metrohmhas released a simple and accuratemethod for the determination ofmelamine inmilk powder and other food using ion chromatography after inline sample dialysis. The newmethod requires onlymoderate spending on instrumentation and is sensitive enough to quantifymelamine contents well below the limits set by food safety regulatory authorities around the world.
Melamine is an industrial chemical in the production of resins, which are used in laminates, glues, adhesives and plastics. It has won a sad notoriety as an illicit adulterant to simulate higher protein levels in milk powder and other food.
The new method to detect melamine contamination in food relies on the high accuracy and sensitivity of the 844 UV/VIS Compact IC, Metrohm’s all-in-one system for the spectrophotometric determination of polar substances, anions and cations. Sample preparation is perfectly convenient due toMetrohm’s patented inline sample dialysis. This kind ofMetrohm inline sample preparation effectively eliminates the organic matrix.
