T e personal approach returns

With COVID-19 restrictions recently revised, in-person technical assessments have restarted as SELECT continues to off er an uninterrupted service to Members.

Assessments had been conducted online during lockdown, with any applicants that passed all our other membership criteria made Conditional Members until in-person visits could be conducted. However, Technical Advisers are now able to visit Members and potential Members to inspect their work, while following strict safety measures to protect against the threat of coronavirus. Director of Technical Services Dave

Forrester said: “We are pleased that in-person technical assessments have now resumed and we are able to visit selected premises across Scotland. “New health and safety measures are in place to minimise risk and ensure that Technical Advisers and those they are visiting take suitable precautions to protect against the threat of COVID-19.” Some SELECT staff are now operating from The Walled Garden, but the majority are still working from home in line with Scottish Government guidance.

As we slowly emerge from the restrictions some delegates are also now attending necessary training course assessments at our Training Centre. SELECT continues to off er Members

a range of measures to help businesses deal with the ongoing eff ects of the pandemic including updated employment advice, online training courses and the latest news on our dedicated COVID-19 hub. Managing Director Alan Wilson said: “As with everything we’ve done in the

past 16 months, the safety of our staff and Members is still our No1 priority. “It is excellent that assessments have

restarted, but we are all aware that coronavirus hasn’t gone away so we will continue to follow government guidance and be COVID smart in everything we do.”

SELECT was saddened to

learn of the loss of one of our long-standing Members, Drew Agnew, who passed away suddenly at the end of March. Drew qualifi ed as an

electrician in the early 1980s and had been a Member of SELECT for more than 15 years. He was an enthusiastic

Member of the association and had many friends within the Ayrshire Branch of SELECT, as well as being highly respected in the local community. He will be sadly missed and

everyone at SELECT would like to extend our condolences to his family.

Website is all-new

SELECT is currently carrying out fi nal checks and testing on its new website, which it is hoped will be launched later in the summer. T e new site has been designed to have a modern look and

feel, with improved navigation, an updated Member search facility, easy-to-follow training section and modern shop. T e site will also feature a dedicated MY SELECT area,

which will enable Members to log in and access membership details and exclusive content. As well a full list of benefi ts, this Members-only area will also include the new SELECT TV section, with instant access to a range of technical, commercial and employment videos. Iain Mason, Director of Membership and Communications,

said: “T e new site is looking excellent and we are already excited for its launch later this year. T e improved functionality will put more of our excellent services at Members’ fi ngertips, and also help anyone who wants to fi nd out more about SELECT and its work.”
