The provinces of South Africa
South Africa is divided into nine provinces. Look at the map on page 46. Find and read the names of the nine provinces marked on the map.
The lines between the provinces show the provincial borders, or dividing lines, between provinces. Sometimes borders follow rivers or mountains. Follow the border of your province on the map.
The lines separating the provinces of South Africa from our neighbouring countries show international borders. When you cross an international border and go into another country, you must have your passport checked at the border post.
Main cities and towns of own province
The town where the leader of the province works is called the provincial capital. Look at the key to find the symbol used to show these towns. Find the provincial capital of your province. Find the other main towns and cities in your province on the map.
Find the approximate location of your own settlement on the map.
