Reading a map This is a map of part of a small town.


Thabo and Funeka live in the town shown on the map. They are both Grade 4 learners at the primary school. Can you find Funeka’s house and Thabo’s house on the map? Use the key to help you.


Funeka gives Thabo directions to get to her house from their school:


“The school is on the corner of Main Street and Protea Street. From Protea Street go into 2nd Street, and turn left into Marula Street. Cross 1st Street. Funeka’s house is the second on the right.”

1 In pairs, use the map. Give directions from one place on the map to another. Your partner must follow them on the map. Then your partner gives directions and you follow them on the map.


2 Give the directions from the primary school to Thabo’s house.
