media relations advisor for Health Canada.“Homes, workplaces and public spaces should be routinely cleaned. High-touch surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected more often and when visibly dirty."

Health Canada cautions, while cleaners themselves will not neces- sarily kill germs, cleaning can help reduce their numbers. “Coronaviruses are one of the easiest types of viruses to kill with the appropriate disinfectant when used according to the label direc- tions.Clean surfaces before using disinfectants and always follow product label directions. If available, choose products that clean and disinfect all at once, such as wipes or commercial disinfectant solu- tions."

Damp cleaning methods are also more preferable than dry meth- ods such as dusting, as they are less likely to disturb droplets. Disposable cleaning products should go right in the garbage once you are done with them, while reusable ones can be washed using your regular laundry soap and hot water. If you are using gloves while cleaning, don’t forget to wash your hands after you remove your gloves.

Clothing that has been possibly exposed, such as reusable face

masks, should go into a container with a plastic liner as soon as you get home, although it can go into the wash with the rest of your laundry. However, it is recommended you use the hot water cycle to wash those items, to ensure whatever you throw in the wash with it can stand up to the cycle,as well. Soft surfaces, such as rugs, should be cleaned with either soap and

water or a cleaner labelled for use for that item. For electronics,be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning them. When bringing your grocery items home,be sure to wash your hands before and after handling them and putting them away, and disinfect any surfaces that come into contact with them. If someone in your home is sick or has COVID-19-related symptoms,

make sure to clean and disinfect your home each day, and to keep any contaminated items separate from the rest of the household. For more information, visit www.canada.ca/en/public-health/servic- es/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/prevention-risks/clean- ing-disinfecting.html.
