as a family — the hardest part, says single mother of four
“Especially with my children all being in different schools and the age gap being so big.We’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to make things work,the best we can.We are mostly home by ourselves all of the time. If anything, I think that’s been our biggest challenge.We’re so used to being with extended family members and friends,”Tashina said. That’s probably been the hardest part, according to Tashina.

“Managing that kind of lonely, isolated feeling.” To cope, the family does a lot of virtual connecting with family and friends through FaceTime and Zoom.“It’s been almost a year now of birthdays,so we’ve had tons of Zoom birthday calls.We will have Zoom movie nights, where we get in touch with my sister and her children and we all watch
together.Those types of things really help.”

Tashina believes the family,as a whole, talks more about things these days — because the family spends so much more time with one another.“It’s challenging to not be able to go places and do the things we’re used to.” Especially with sports being cancelled recently,Tashina’s children
used to all play hockey and loved it.“It is something our lives are kind of centred around in the winter
months.Not having that for the past couple of months has been really
challenging.They get restless. I think since the sports stopped, they really started saying things like,‘I really miss this person or I miss being able to do this or I wish we could just go.’”
