Name: Jacek Nowak

Company: CCA Europe, a software company specialising in the financial sector

Job Title: CEO

What does your company do? We provide custom software for the banking and financial sector. End-to-end development projects for core banking and payment systems are our speciality. We also provide business applications, software tests based on proprietary solutions, and business analysis services.

How did it all start? Even during my first job, I realised that by leaving my mark on banking, I could impact on a critical area of life. I launched CCA Europe when I realised that I didn’t need any corporate baggage to pursue my goals.

What’s your greatest achievement so far? The most recent one is founding a company in the UK. We have always operated in an international environment; working with global clients definitely raises the professional bar.

What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? My biggest leap was leaving a corporate firm to start CCA Europe. My first client was from the UK. Our team of eight had to live off private savings for about a month. Arek, Tomek and Jacek are still with us.

What keeps you awake at night? Often when working on solving a complex problem, I go to sleep, and my mind presents the solution in a dream. I wake up and write it down. This worked for my final thesis, too. When I'm asleep, I’m both resting and working.

If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? I always say that I regret absolutely nothing. Not a single moment of my life.

What has surprised you most in your job? Cultural differences. This is a significant and highly-impacting factor on our perception of the world, and of work. Working in an international environment is very enriching, one gets to observe how people approach problem solving differently.

What advice would you give to someone starting out? Look for your niche in advance, but without losing the context. Know your goal, but don’t forget the big picture lest you miss the best way.

Which business do you most admire? I admire the medical business industry the most, because it saves lives. Secondly the space exploration industry, which looks for new life, and thirdly the finance sector, which is the key sponsor of it all.

What exciting projects is your business working on? In general, the most exciting projects are those that enable even more synergy for existing solutions. Our solutions PATT and Payres showcase just that.

What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? In seeking opportunities to reach out to our clients based on the understanding of their culture, we see the potential behind integrated communities. The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce will surely help us fit into the cultural boundaries and the market context.
