New job-ready scheme is launched

Birmingham-based distance learning provider Oxbridge has partnered with some of the country’s leading recruitment experts to revolutionise the job-hunting experience for thousands of people. Oxbridge, in partnership

with Pertemps, Gleeson, and Hinterview, has launched a range of initiatives to help those who want to increase their chances in the job market. They have created a

microsite at Oxbridge.uk/jobready which takes a holistic approach to each person, providing them with the tools they need to secure their next job, while giving advice on a range of issues, from mental health and wellbeing to planning their day and setting goals. The site has a free Job

Ready Pack short course, which contains essential tips, advice, and practical exercises for job seekers. Oxbridge has also established a £100,000 fund which will go towards covering 20 per cent of the course fees of anyone looking to upskill or retrain by enrolling on one of their 250+ professional, accredited courses. Oxbridge founder Matt

Jones said: “With the coronavirus crisis mounting, we feel it’s our responsibility to do everything we can to help people. Entire industries have been hit really hard, and there are thousands of people looking to retrain in a different profession – this includes those on the extended furlough scheme who are worried about job security. If they have a dream, we want to make it a reality.” The Job Ready Pack is a

free, comprehensive course covering three main areas: dealing with redundancy, CV writing, and interview skills. Among the advice found on

the dedicated microsite will be details of some of the best recession-proof careers to retrain in, such as childcare and counselling, with step-by- step guidance for those with no prior experience.

Sustainable efforts are rewarded

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust has scooped a top award for its environmentally-friendly travel plan which is working to reduce the number of staff driving to work. The organisation won the “contribution to

sustainable travel by an organisation” gong, for its work around introducing more cycle lanes, cycle parking, implementing a car share scheme with Faxi, and installing electric vehicle charging points. The Trust was recognised in the Modeshift National

Sustainable Travel Awards, which took place virtually. Earlier this year, the organisation, which runs Sandwell, City and Rowley Regis Hospitals, achieved bronze accreditation from Modeshift for the travel plans. Fran Silcocks, sustainability officer, who contributed

to the travel plan, said: “We are honoured and extremely pleased to be recognised in this way for the work we are doing around sustainability. We have been going over and above in our efforts to reduce driving to our sites and have put in place a number of environmentally-friendly initiatives. “We have significantly more electric vehicle charging

points being installed in the near future and are working with local public transport providers to offer discounted travel for our staff.

28 CHAMBERLINK December 2020/January 2021 “By introducing the travel plan, the Trust clearly

demonstrates our commitment to forming a greener and more sustainable workplace. A big part of our goal is looking at the way staff travel and making it easier and better for people to choose walking, cycling, public transport, low emission vehicles or car sharing rather than travelling individually by car. “As a health care provider, we have a duty of care to

advocate improvements in air quality and are committed to positively contributing towards this. We look forward to working with our local authorities to improve air quality.”
