Living Space enters new house building partnership

New era (from left): David Hemming, James Merrick and Peter Browne

Pair take reins at property firm

A new era is underway for property consultancy Burley Browne after a deal which gives two partners control of the company. Equity partners David Hemming

and James Merrick have each acquired a 50 per cent stake in the Sutton Coldfield-based business and have ambitious plans to expand its operations. The pair will be joint managing

directors. Peter Browne, who established the company alongside Andrew Burley in 1999, will continue to work with the company as a consultant. Mr Merrick said: “These are very

exciting times at Burley Browne. David and I now have ownership of the business and have a clear vision for the future. We have agreed a robust strategy and are determined to drive Burley Browne forward.” Mr Hemming said: “This marks

the start of a great new era for Burley Browne. The company has gained an excellent reputation as a leading regional agent across north Birmingham and South Staffordshire. “We intend to strengthen our

position in the market by adding significant experience and expertise in areas that we have identified as being key to our future plans.” Peter Browne said: “Since

establishing Burley Browne alongside Andrew Burley, we have grown the business and established it as one of the leading regional property consultancies with a first class reputation. “We’ve got some fantastic clients

and highly experienced colleagues. I’m delighted to pass on the reins to David and James and I’m confident the business will be in safe hands as it continues to evolve.” Burley Browne provides a range

of commercial property services to a wide variety of clients. These include private individuals and small businesses, through to pension funds, banks, property investors and developers, multi- national companies and national retail and leisure operators.

A Solihull-based housing company is to develop a new site in the Oxfordshire village of Milcombe, near Banbury. Living Space Housing has joined forces with

housing provider Paradigm to build 40 affordable homes on the 3.5-acre site. Construction work is due to start this month, with

the first homes scheduled for completion before the end of next year. Living Space and Paradigm are ensuring that the

scheme meets ‘green’ standards, in a bid to reduce carbon emissions. Air source heat pumps will be installed at all 40 homes to provide sustainable, cost- saving heating technology. Living Space managing director Steve Davies said:

“This is our first development in Oxfordshire, our first collaboration with Paradigm Housing, and the first scheme where we’ve taken the proactive decision to introduce air source heat pumps, so we are especially pleased to announce this key addition to our rapidly growing development portfolio. “The whole team is working exceptionally hard to

be in a position to commence construction as soon as possible, in order to meet the shortage of quality new homes in North Oxfordshire.” Rebecca King, head of land and new business at

Paradigm, said: “We are always looking for opportunities to provide new homes in areas that lack affordable housing, such as in this historic and

picturesque part of North Oxfordshire. “These 40 highly sustainable new homes will be

offered for affordable rent and shared ownership – so that depending on the needs of the family or individual, there will be a suitable and affordable option for them.”

‘We are always looking for opportunities to provide new homes in areas that lack affordable housing’

Living Space Housing specialises in linking up with

housing providers, and its role includes land, planning, design, build and development. Despite having only launched last year, the

company is already on site at four, where it is building 406 homes. The other sites include 38 homes at Park Road in

the Malinslee ward of Telford for Wrekin Housing Group, 26 homes at Britannia Way in central Telford for Accord Housing, 51 homes at Pixiefields in Cradley, on the outskirts of Malvern and 48 homes at the former Victoria Carpets Sports Ground on the outskirts of Kidderminster. The latter two schemes are in conjunction with affordable housing provider Stonewater.

Developers open local sales office

The Timber Yard: New show apartment has opened

The Galliard Apsley Partnership has opened its first dedicated sales office in Birmingham. The show apartment and sales

office are at Timber Yard, Pershore Street, the partnership’s new development in the Southside district. Timber Yard will include 379

flats, including studio, one and two bedrooms. More than 80 per cent of them have already been sold off plan.

Amenities at Timber Yard include

courtyard, with many homes boasting balconies or terraces. Don O’Sullivan, chief executive

officer at Galliard Homes, said: “In London we deliver more than 2,000 homes each year and have a reputation for our luxe interiors and inclusive fit-out. In Birmingham we currently have five sites and a pipeline of more than 2,500 homes. The opening of a dedicated sales and show suite in the city is a major milestone for the business and we look forward to welcoming potential buyers to view our product for the first time.” Gerard Nock, chairman at Apsley House Capital, said: “It feels great

to be able to showcase the finished architecture and specification of the partnership’s product in Birmingham.” Timber Yard is close to the city

centre, in the Gay Village and Chinese Quarter, and directly opposite the Smithfield site. The area was known for its timber and scrap metal yards, and plywood and aluminium works. Timber Yard has two blocks of

six and 12 storeys and the first residents will move in from autumn next year. A range of properties are on offer, with prices from £207,500. Optional parking is available at £20,000 per space.
