WHS Plastics, a global manufacturer of plastic injection moulding products, has opened a new £3.5m, 75,000 sq ft national distribution centre at its Minworth site in Sutton Coldfield. The investment will see 11 new

jobs created at the facility with plans to employ more people in the future. WHS Plastics, which also has

manufacturing operations in Runcorn, UK and Egypt, employs 630 people, with 400 of those based in the West Midlands. The company, which has an

annual revenue of £60m, manufactured 100,000 plastic visors with Jaguar Land Rover in response to the Covid crisis. The new national distribution

centre has been developed to provide an on-demand logistics service for customers.

The go-to app for ordering Is a lifeline at restaurants

An innovative app aimed at smaller members of the hospitality sector that allows customers to order and pay for food and drinks from their table has been launched by an energy management consultant. THEGO2GROUP, 1813 Club

members of the Chamber, have entered a partnership with W8R to launch the app which they believe will help serve as a lifeline for hospitality businesses in Birmingham affected by Covid-19 restrictions. Virtual server W8R allows

customers to scan a QR code at the venue – limiting waiting times and interactions with staff. Jonathan Golightly, chief

executive at THEGO2GROUP, said:

“I’m proud to announce the latest partnership with W8R. It’s the UK’s leading solution for the hospitality sector to help businesses who are a bedrock of the industry. This helps these businesses adapt to the current climate and be proactive with minimal contact.” While entrepreneur and software

developer Kalvin Banks first thought of the idea three years ago, it wasn’t until the Covid-19 pandemic hit that he recognised how valuable the technology could be for the struggles facing the hospitality industry. And the app has introduced a

new feature which allows customers to order via click and collect or for delivery. Kalvin says: “With bars and

restaurants opening with restricted numbers, it’s really important that they are able to work as efficiently as possible and W8R helps with a faster turnover as there’s no waiting time for service. The great thing about the app is that it can adapt to suit further challenges the hospitality industry might face, which is why we’ve recently added a feature to help businesses who are providing takeaways for what might be the first time.”

company with an additional 35,000 sq feet of warehousing capacity to support future growth ambitions. Paul Nicholson, group managing

director at WHS Plastics Limited, said: “We are delighted to open our new national distribution centre here in the West Midlands. "The current 15-strong

distribution centre team will continue their roles at the new

distribution centre, including Gareth Cummins who has been a valued member of the logistics operations for 23 years and we are also commencing a recruitment drive to support the new operation, which we are thrilled to be doing at this current time. “Whilst the pandemic has been a

challenging period for the majority of companies across the country,

including those here in the West Midlands, we believe that we can come out of this period even stronger. "Our significant investment is

designed to continue to provide the very best support to our largest market, the automotive sector in the region and nationally, as well as other sectors in providing a first- class distribution service.”
