Chamber member Storopack participated in The Alliance to End Plastic Waste World Clean Up Day and the ALL_TOGETHER GLOBAL CLEANUP campaign. Storopack has been part of this

global initiative since 2019, which aims to free the environment from plastic waste. Storopack reaffirmed its commitment to World Clean-up Day and, together with other members and companies from all over the world, took part in the ALL_TOGETHER GLOBAL CLEANUP campaign, which started on 19 September and ran until 4 October 2020. On World Clean-up Day the

alliance, employees of the member companies as well as other companies, partners and individuals around the world were invited to clean up their immediate surroundings and remove even the smallest piece of litter from nature. Clean-ups are one of four

strategic pillars of the mission that Alliance to End Plastic Waste is

GETTING STUCK ON SUSTAINABILITY

As well as the all too familiar focus of attention on Covid-19 and Brexit this year, Chamber member label and tag manufacturer Piroto Labelling has found that sustainability is top of customers’ agendas. To help meet the growing demand for

environmentally friendly labels and tags, the technical team at Piroto have set up an internal task force to explore innovative ways of meeting their customers’ green objectives. Piroto’s managing director Leigh Mann said: “We

work with customers to identify operation efficiencies too – like maximising the number of labels on a roll. Often a simple change can reduce the environmental impact of waste materials, like label cores. There’s an added benefit too, as roll change-overs are reduced thus improving productivity.”

12 inbusiness DECEMBER 2020/JANUARY 2021 Piroto has developed an online calculator which

helps companies to work out if they are getting the maximum number of labels on a roll. By adding four simple parameters – label material, label length, roll core size and maximum roll size that the user’s printer can accommodate, technical and operations managers can quickly see if they could be making savings. Leigh added: “The calculator has been particularly well received by companies with high volume label and tag usage, like distribution and logistics companies, as they can immediately see the benefits both for themselves and the planet.”

pursuing, as these concrete actions attract a lot of attention and bring people together. The non- governmental non-profit organisation Alliance to End Plastic Waste aims to advance solutions that effectively combat environmental pollution from plastic waste. Through various programs and partnerships, the alliance focuses on four areas: infrastructure, innovation, education and clean-up. Storopack already has experience

with cleaning campaigns; Storopack has been supporting the non-profit, international foundation Big Blue Ocean Clean-up since 2018 and is the exclusive sponsor of the coastal cleaning program. Among other things, beach cleaning campaigns take place in Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Benelux, in which the employees take part voluntarily. The beaches are freed from microplastics and small plastic parts.
