OUT & ABOUT

Study Smart, Study Local

at University Centre Rotherham

The main message of 2020 has been to stay at home. But if you’re looking to spread your education wings, you may be weighing up whether to fly the nest or remain a homebird for your higher education studies.

At University Centre Rotherham, local learners now have access to a wide range of high-quality courses right on their doorstep to open a world of opportunities. Whether you are continuing your studies, changing career path or returning to education as a mature student, there are many reasons why studying locally is the smartest decision you’ll make.

‘‘If you’re a college leaver, then you will still be able to experience the rite of passage of going to university; you’ll just save money on accommodation costs if you are able to remain at home’’

UCR provides a local, affordable, friendly and flexible route to gaining top-quality degrees in the heart of Rotherham. It’s a place where you’ll make friends for life, discover new passions and pave the way toward a brighter future full of personal and professional fulfilment. The purpose-built state-of-the-art campus opened in 2018 to offer a dedicated higher education facility in the town. The building reflects the modern approach to learning, with a two- storey library, exhibition space, social areas and a café.

The full and part-time level 4 to 7 courses cover

a range of academic and vocational subjects, from education and health and social care to engineering and construction or art, media and performance. They also offer a select amount of higher-level apprenticeships to help learners climb the career ladder in a work-based setting. All UCR courses are accredited by partner universities including Sheffield Hallam University and University of Hull, but one of the main benefits of studying in Rotherham means you will save thousands in tuition fees compared to traditional universities. While you could save up to £6,000 every year depending on the course you choose, this doesn’t compromise on the quality of learning.

UCR is proud to be the only HE provider in South Yorkshire rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework, in recognition of providing an effective learning environment in which students from all backgrounds achieve outstanding outcomes. Due to smaller class sizes, one-to-one support and industry- experienced tutors, UCR’s personalised approach to learning means students have excellent support, representation and engagement opportunities to enhance their professional prospects.

Along with a talented team of lecturers, UCR also works with over 1,000 local businesses and employers to provide guest lectures, masterclasses and employer visits or work placements to ensure you have sought-after skills for your dream career.

By nurturing talent within the town, this not

only helps narrow the skills gap and strengthen the local economy, but it also means learners gain a potential earnings advantage by widening their network.

If you’re a college leaver, then you will still be able to experience the rite of passage of going to university; you’ll just save money on accommodation costs if you are able to remain at home.

But UCR isn’t just for younger people. A third of all students are aged 21 to 30 and almost a quarter are 30-plus, meaning it is never too late to learn. There are part-time courses available to enable you to manage your studies around family or work commitments.

Some tough decisions have had to be made this year, but your ambitions don’t need to be put on hold. University Centre Rotherham is there to warmly welcome you to their learning community and help you achieve your ambitions.
