OUT & ABOUT Shop local
Support family retailers at Rotherham Market
Rotherham has been a historic market town for over 800 years, but following the coronavirus pandemic, the market has never been more important to the local community – and economy – than it is today.
We have all assessed and changed our shopping habits during these last six months and the retail sector has had to evolve dramatically. But at the Centenary Market, it is still full of heart and soul and a safe, enjoyable and friendly place to shop.
The traders are both long- standing and new, with two floors made up of independent family- owned retailers.
Shopping local is paramount to not only their survival, but also to keep Rotherham thriving. People tend to use supermarkets and shopping centres for convenience; but the market hall has more than you’d expect under one roof with lots of bargains to be had.
So, what will you discover on your next visit? Fresh Produce
Grocery shopping in your local market is a time-honoured tradition that always proves fruitful. The produce is always superbly fresh, having usually been picked, baked or cut hours before it landed on the stall rather than spending weeks in transit.
Whether you need locally sourced meat from the butchers or fresh fish from the fishmonger, fruit and veg
from the greengrocer, freshly baked bread and cakes from the bakeries, or cooked meats and pastries from the delicatessen, there is always plenty of choice. You can also pick up a bag of your favourite sweets or even a sweet hamper, or treat someone you love to freshly cut flowers from just £3 a bunch.
Fashion and Beauty
With a large selection of clothing available, choose a new outfit from men, women and children’s fashion stalls, along with stylish shoes and bags at excellent prices.
On the ground floor you will find nightwear and underwear, along with sports and workwear, and even an embroidery service.
If you’re looking for new accessories, there are a range of long-established stalls selling everything from gold rings and chains to costume jewellery, as well as scarves and military remembrance badges.
If you need a little pampering, then you will also find a hair salon and nail bar plus a cosmetics stall selling quality branded makeup and beauty products.

General & Household Goods
When we say you can find everything under one roof, we really mean it. The varied stalls sell a mix of goods from greeting cards and books to clocks and watches. There are stalls where you can pick up the latest mobile phones and accessories or get essential repairs, plus a cobbler and key cutter for those all-important necessities you can’t leave the house without. Pick up new electrical items for your home, add the finishing touches with stylish ornaments or even choose new carpets.
One of the newest businesses to open is the wool shop which sells fine quality wools, yarns and kits in a range of colours – perfect for those who have taken up a new knitting or crochet hobby during lockdown. Nearby there is also a haberdashery stall for buttons, ribbon and thread. Finish off your visit with a cup of tea or coffee and a homemade bite to eat at one of the cafes or delis. The variety you’ll find at Rotherham Market will leave you excited to come back each week. The indoor market is open Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 5pm.
