Faircracker SUMMER 2020

Greetings from Zone 2 Vicki Chouris, Director

As we continue to live and work in a world of uncertainty, I was thrilled this past week to learn that we may actually have some news to celebrate! We received word that Fairs across the na- tion are beginning to get approval to happen. Two that I am aware of are in our Zone 2 region. As of today, June 15, the Delaware State Fair is still on the books to open and the West Virginia State Fair has been given a green light to proceed. This is very exciting as we hope more and more Fairs are able to host the events our communities look forward to every year. These Fairs will look differ- ent, but with the leadership that is in place, I have no doubt they will offer an unforgetta- ble experience to their Fair participants and visitors. Hopefully, by the time this newsletter goes to print, my news will be dated and there will have been many more announce-

ments, especially from our County Fairs. I would like to take a moment to thank the panelists that gave their time and expertise in May to offer an informational

“Let’s Talk COVID-19” webinar for the IAFE regarding our Fairs and our Fair operations. Over 60 people were on the call to learn as much as possible about best practices during this time. Thanks to Zone 2 members and Fair represent- atives Nancy Smith, South Carolina State Fair and IAFE Chair; Marlene Pierson-Jolliffe, Virginia State Fair; and Danny Aguilar, Delaware State Fair. Representing Florida Fairs was Florida Federation of Fairs Executive Director Dan West and industry associates Lance Fuchs of Foster and Fuchs and Andrew Vandepopulier of Haas & Wilkerson shared their insight as to what Fairs need to be mindful of when either planning, postponing or holding their Fairs. Thanks to Marla Calico and her team at the IAFE, the webinar was produced without a hitch. On a final note, it was certainly disappointing not to join together in person at our annual Zone 2 meeting with the

Florida Fairs. But, all is not lost… We will emerge from this stronger and more resilient than ever. It is who we are and what we do! Looking forward to seeing you in San Antonio in November.

Rachel Wolfe, Highlands County Fair Awarded IAFE Institute of Fair Management Scholarship

I want to thank the Florida Federation of Fairs Schol-

arship committee. I truly appreciate your generosity and I am excited to continue my education in the Institute of Fair Management. Please do not hesitate to let me know if there is any-

thing I can help with. Best Wishes, Rachel
