Charitable Causes, Promotion & Partnership Our team is also responsible for choosing a Charity of the Year to receive

the bank’s assistance in a variety of ways over 12 months. In addition to donations and fundraising efforts, colleagues commit time to taking part in volunteering projects and spreading awareness. We understand the need to respond to the specific requirements and needs of charities, and due to the current Covid-19 crisis, we have committed to supporting our current Charity of the Year throughout 2020 and into 2021. As a result of Covid-19 many people have been unable to provide

voluntary support, so it is important now more than ever to find ways to give back. Our UITC committee was asked to support vendors of the ‘Big Issue’, who are currently unable to sell magazines to generate income. More than 1,500 individuals rely on the Big Issue’s services, and we wanted to educate our own team and other businesses on the wider societal challenges that they are currently facing. By matching UITC’s contribution, Unity Trust Bank was able to purchase a three-month subscription for each of our colleagues and help spread awareness of the Big Issue’s emergency appeal.

‘As a result of Covid-19 many people have been unable to provide voluntary support’

What it means for your people Unity Trust Bank’s values are strongly aligned with those of charities and community organisations, and we have found that this is incredibly important for our people, increasing their advocacy and loyalty to the business. By creating opportunities for employees to work at the heart of their communities, many are driven by their sense of accomplishment and fulfilment at work. Ensuring that our colleagues have a sense of purpose and their own

voice within the organisation means we have been able to attract some of the best professionals within the industry; it’s also a key factor behind why they want to stay. Eighty-eight per cent of our employees feel their work makes a difference to others, with 93 per cent believing colleagues act in an honest and ethical way. Every loan we make has a societal impact, whether it’s through the

creation of jobs, supporting community facilities or developing care services, and we believe this gives individuals a deeper connection to the business while enabling us to make real positive change.

Hit hard: Big Issue sellers have been unable to sell their magazines
